This currently where I'm at with mine. Not the best but not the worst either. Using highest screen resolution, aod, Bluetooth off Wi-Fi on 4g network high accuracy location. Did a restore from my S8+ so I wouldn't have thought it would cause much of an issue seeing as they are very similar devices. Just about to factory reset and start from scratch and see if any improvement. Hopefully I can gain something as to not even get a day from my phone just sucks! My galaxy note 5 had the best battery life out of any phone I've ever owned Apple or Samsung. 2 days easy per charge. I would expect things to go forward not backwards...

Ouch. That's pretty awful. I turned off AOD and have the resolution at FHD. But I have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G and GPS turned on and use a dark theme.
From what I've heard, you should avoid restoring from a previous handset.

I found that my battery life has gotten better over the span of a week. It was never as bad as yours but once you start over, give it a while to improve.

I just about get to the end of the day usually with 10% left with normal use. thats around 16 hours for me.
For those who buy the phone and state battery life in the first few days, please don't. Your battery will take a week or so to build its stamina, so first few days can be disregarded.
Also always clear cache from the recovery menu after set up. It helps a lot as an awful lot of stuff goes on during installation.
And for the record I've always restored from a back up and previous phone (Note FE in my case, S8+ before, Mate 9 before that...) and NEVER had a problem. Setting up a device app by app - no thanks! I have over 140 apps!!!
I remember a couple of years ago my battery suddenly started crashing. It was National Coaches app. An update caused sudden high battery drain so you need to learn how to find out where problems might arise from.
Might help someone ^

I was having poor battery life after my first week of owning my ATT Note8. Installed AccuBattery and BatteryStats but couldn't really find the real cause of it. I decided to pull the trigger and install the Unlocked firmware not only in hopes of fixing battery life but to also debloat my phone. I've been using it for 2 days now and battery life has improved tremendously. Before I was getting 3.5 -4.5 (if I was lucky) SOT, standby time would be barely 9 hours. On both days I've managed to get 5.5 - 6 SOT with almost 15 hours of standby. I did not restore from a back up and I downloaded roughly 100 some apps including games. I still want to wait it out a week before am completely sure that my battery problem is resolved but fingers crossed.

Have you found any downsides to using the unlocked firmware on AT&T? Does your volte and wifi calling work properly?

Yup those are the two downsides. volte and WiFi Calling do not work. I know someone had some success with calling ATT and having the IMS registered. I may try that later but for now I can live without both. I much rather have the phone debloated. All the crap the ATT version had was annoying and took up so much space.

I know that with my S7 Edge the required files were part of the CSC flash and then all that was required was an IMEI that AT&T recognized as a device capable of volte or wifi calling and of their network

So I'm not sure what the other person did

Be curious to know more details

Ok so did a full factory reset and went through the tedious process of installing everything manually and getting all the settings back the way I like.
Definitely an improvement over yesterday and as stated above as things optimise and battery settles in I should see more improvement. Also did the cache wipe after everything was installed and setup. Screen brightness been 60% of the time at 50% and 40% maxed out in direct sun 100%. Screen resolution on Max and I've set everything to sleep automatically through battery optimisation. WiFi on 4g location high accuracy and Bluetooth off. Vibrate and sound feedback and spen also on even when inserted (as I use a galaxy tab/book full size spen). Been browsing on Chrome and Tapatalk a bit of light gaming some Facebook and note taking as well as minor camera use.
On another note I've noticed some apps look different now (e.g. SwiftKey). It's like as if they could only update so far thinking it was my s8+ still but with a clean install it's a different/newer version?
Thanks for the advice all. Will update again in a week to see if any improvements.

My battery life improved drastically after I factory reset it and downloaded bk disabler. I just disabled anything with ATT in it, bixby, and a very small amount of Samsung apps.

That's what I did initially which helped a great deal but those apps/ATT bloat took up a significant amount of space as well.

A dark/black theme and turning off AOD will help extend battery life. I liked AOD but the drain wasn't worth the benefit.
Yup, AOD always gave me problems with drain. May have been the theme I was using, but having it off gave me a lot better standby time. As for the system theme I'm using the High Contrast Black theme from the Samsung Theme Store. Been using it since my Note7 (RIP) lol

Same with me. It wasn't going crazy with juice consumption but there was a noticeable difference in battery life after I turned off AOD. Now it's just "Sometimes On Display". I'll turn it on here and there but mostly it's off.

Out of the box was happy with it... got like 3 hours SOT and the phone was at 60% or 70%... but I did factory reset in recovery before setting it up from the start again. Now had a full charge from 0 to 100 and battery life is terrible android system is first, adhell is not working so using blokada that might be draining the battery? How does those VPN adblockers work? Do I need to turn it on only when browsing or can I keep it on all time?

Just for FYI second day and battery is superb got close to 6 hours SOT.
