Poor battery performance, what to do?

I'm guilty! I'm either at my desk with wireless charger, in my car with fast car charger, or at home with wireless charger. I don't spend more than 4-5 hours somewhere where I don't have access to a charger.
However it still gets under my skin when I see wild battery drop. I think I have deeper underlying issues I should attend to lol.
Nah. As human quirks go, this one is pretty harmless. May as well indulge it on occasion, but when you do, be aware you're essentially playing a video game--and at other times, just ignore the battery and enjoy all the phone's features instead.

Just one thing I'd like to compare to others is the battery drain over 1 hour with screen off and also battery drain with screen on.
Currently I lose 2% per hour screen off with AOD turned on and 1% every 2.5minutes when screen is on and no apps running (just sitting on home screen with all apps put to sleep and using a dark theme).
Based on that SOT battery drop it works out to 4hrs in total from 100% to 0.
Going to try some of the apps mentioned to see if any software/apps are draining in the background otherwise will visit a Samsung store to get them to run some tests and see if it's hardware (faulty battery). My s8+ was better but I wouldn't think the small increase in size would make that much difference.

Just got my Note 8 and instantly noticed insane battery drain. My previous phone (S8+) easily lasted all day and more. The note 8? It's unbearable. For example, I went to work the other day, mind you we lost power so the closet cellular tower was down. So I had no service. So my phone was at 100% (7AM) to 52% (3PM) while IDLE...that makes no sense. My S8+ would've lost 5% at most. I don't use my Note 8 any differently than I did with my S8+, and I've even done multiple restores on my Note 8 and the problems still persist.

4G/LTE signal health affect your battery greatly, the lower the signal, the harder your phone has to work to hold onto the signal. Especially when it starts dropping to 3G/HSPA, EDGE, and eventually No Service.

You said your closest cell tower was down and your phone had no service, this is completely different than, say, switching to Airplane Mode and just run on WiFi. While your cell tower is down and your phone getting no service, your phone 4G/LTE modem will work at max power to search for signal, hence it will eat up your battery. This is why there's that advice saying to put your phone in Airplane Mode in areas where your phone cannot get any service.

Even still, there's been an instance where I went to bed one night, Note8 fully charged and it dropped about 30% while not in use. It's unacceptable. Also even if the phone is still searching for service when a tower is down it shouldn't drop that much. My S8+ wouldn't go no more than 6-7% so there something definitely wrong with the Note8's battery.

I'm only losing 2% on my note 8 overnight, I find the battery is ever so slightly under the s8+ I use to have. So maybe you got a lemon?

I feel like when a user goes into the Samsung battery optimization area and selects actively to put apps to sleep that this is causing more drain. I know it sounds like I'm losing my mind here but doze is already buried into android and manufacturers can not turn doze off. My advice stop self selecting to close apps and put them to sleep if you are. Let android handle it and see what happens. Also, even though stats didn't show it as a major drain. Facebook being repeated has improved it majorly. I use Samsung internet with push notifications for that.

Quoted from battery university http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries
Maybe this is another factor, FYI
Although a battery should deliver 100 percent capacity during the first year of service, it is common to see lower than specified capacities, and shelf life may contribute to this loss. In addition, manufacturers tend to overrate their batteries, knowing that very few users will do spot-checks and complain if low. Not having to match single cells in mobile phones and tablets, as is required in multi-cell packs, opens the floodgates for a much broader performance acceptance. Cells with lower capacities may slip through cracks without the consumer knowing.

What percentage of screen brightness do you guys usually keep your phone at? I keep mine at 25%. Uh God.. the phone is so dark. I realize that i keep the brightness really low.. but what levels do u keep it to.. and havent seen significant drain?
I plan to completely remove facebook and messenger as well.
Id rather surf from the desktop.
