Poor press = Black Friday discount?

So far the initial reviews have been pretty mediocre for the Pixel 4. This has got me wondering if there will be a big discount for Blake Friday sales like there was for the Pixel 3.
I've pre ordered all of the previous Pixels, but I'm holding off on the 4 for a couple of reasons.

1. The Pixel 3 got a big discount on Black Friday, barely a month after launch. That did / does feel like Google screwed over the early adopters that pre-ordered.

2. Questions about how apps will respond to the switch from fingerprint to face unlock. I don't know if the transition will be smooth or if there will be a delay until apps like banking will work with face unlock.

3. Competition, I'm debating picking up a One plus 7t or 7t pro. Sine Verizon is going LTE only there is no longer a reason not to use one of those. My number one priority is the phone being fast and those seem to be the fastest Android phones available. I'm also considering an iPhone 11 pro, but I'm not sure if I want to deal with Apple.

@atlp99 With questions like you have and the slightly disingenuous title of the thread I think you should wait until BF. I don't know which review you have read but I don't think it's fair to jump the gun without having a lot of hands-on. There are not as of yet. No matter the reviews you will get about 1/2 off on BF or perhaps a BOGO from a carrier. I don't believe Google will be giving a discount since so many carriers are selling the device.

Have you read anything about the biometric regarding fingerprint vs face unlock? You should before you ask a question like that. All in all I don't think this device is up your alley as a pre-order. Starting out with such negative ideas would not bode well for a positive user experience.

It will be interesting to see if there is a discount coming.

On the one hand, I agree with you that the reviews are mixed (many were published today). Battery size/performance is clearly and issue with the 4. Many reviewers are having issues with getting Soli gestures to work reliably too. The lack of storage space is also a negative. All of these things are going to be headwinds for Google trying to sell the Pixel 4.

But this is also the first Pixel phone that is available from all the major US service providers. That is going to make a huge difference and drive sales IMHO. While I always buy my phones outright, many people like to "pay as they go" with a monthly device fee. This is going help drive Pixel 4/4 XL sales like never before.

Like you, I am waiting until Black Friday before deciding if I am purchasing the Pixel 4XL and give my wife my Pixel 3aXL or if I am going to buy another 3a XL (or even a 3 xl if the sale price is compelling enough) for her. I certainly am never going to pay full retail price for the 4 or 4 XL. It is certainly not worth the price Google is asking for it.

If you enter XL territory, then you have plenty of options. If you stay at non-XL. There are much less.
For Pixel 4 XL you'll get better feedback on this forum.

To me, even the Nexus 5X was too big, still usable.

Now, going back to the topic. There's a HUGE chance the phones will be discounted in Black Friday. So If you don't want to pay premium for getting the phone 1 month earlier, you can save money by just waiting.
