I just got a refurbished Pixel XL as an advance replacement from Google. The fingerprint sensor was all scratched up and the USB-C input was full of dust and dirt.

Is this what I should expect? Is this normal? I thought they refurbished them to new condition?

Take pictures and get in touch with support. My guess is if you can prove it came that way, they'll sort it.

Good thing I read this post. I have an issue with the headphone jack. I got an RMA, but they want to send me a refurbished pixel xl. I refused and asked if i could get a new one. Hopefully they do send me a new one because I will be traveling out of the country and i wont be able to do an RMA if i get a defective one. Good luck and try to get another RMA. That is not the way they should be sending them. Poor job on the person in charge of refurbishing those.

I got the same thing as you did. First device got burn-in and the sent a F'ed up refurbished! Icomplained in a nice way and got a brand new as well.

Then I OTAed (Jan patch) my new one which caused it literally to hard bricked to where no bootloader existed. Complained in a nice way again and just got a brand on new again yesterday.

In a nice way I demanded I did not want a refurbished one due to this issue happening.

Give it a go bro. Good luck .

I got what appears to have been a brand new device when I got warranty replacement on my Nexus 6p for battery issues no questions or begging whatsoever, I'd say ask nicely and most customer support people will get you what you want.

Me too. Just last month. With two 6P's.

One was a 6P 32GB insurance replacement (smashed screen) and the other 6P, a 64GB, was a "just under the 1 year warranty deadline" replacement due to battery issues. Both were replaced with free overnight shipping with what appear to be factory fresh Pixel XL 128GB in sealed retail boxes with all the accessories.
