Droid 2 Zoom mode question

Hey,

I don't mean to change the topic, and if I need to post this else where I can do that to, but I have a quick question for anyone who may have a Droid 2 handy. I see some of the bundled apps on the Droid 2 can be ported to other devices, and was curious if anyone can tell me if the "Zoom Mode" application on that device can be used on other android devices. It is found under the accessibility menu, and provides screen magnification. This is only from reading around, since I myself have not used this phone. Please if anyone can confirm if Zoom Mode is an add on app to that can be used on other phones I would be very greatful. I myself suffer from very low vision and the zoom function would make my day.

Thanks in advance.

With every multi-touch keyboard I've applied/tried out there's a slight bug.

When I'm texting, I can only see the bottom half of what I'm texting. I have to scroll in the main text area to see what I'm typing fully, but as soon as I go back to typing it only shows the bottom half of the letter again.

Wondering if you could check it out or fix it?

Running BB 0.4 on Droid1.

I've posted this on other themers/devs threads as well hoping to find a fix for this, thanks.

For some reason I cannot get the keyboard to run. It shows in the setting that the multi touch is active but when I goto Handcent it pops up with the same old black Android keyboard.

I've tried pushing the files manually and the easy way and still nothing. I hope the fact I am using UD 8 is not causing the problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

got it working.. using the "old/manual" method on a rooted D1 using Pete's vanilla FRG01B ROM (no theme).

1. backup my ROM (nandroid)
2. backup (zipped) system/lib/libjni_latinime.so with root explorer
3. sent the apk to gmail and then installed apk
4. copy/paste new libjni_latinime.so in place over old (remounted as r/w with root explorer)
5. installed green highlight theme .zip via recovery (found earlier in this thread)
6. settings > lang & keyboard > selected the multi-touch keyboard

so, it seems to work! I do have the choice, using the "manual" method in that thread, to select stock keyboard or multi-touch. but I love this multi-touch as it looks way better, seems snappier, faster, more accurate, nice colors, I do have multi touch ability now (I can touch two or more spaces on the screen and the screen registers two or more individual fingers).

also, my shift key and some of the other key oddities others list - alt and caps keys sticking on - seem to work as expected for me.

Now, I did try to select the stock keyboard and did have some FC issues others reported.. but not sure I will even go back though. Also, the manual method does allow to keep the stock, so I should be able to roll back. But odd that I followed the method to keep stock and still get forceclosing on the stock KB. I like having the option to go back if I want, so it is kind of a bummer. But I like this KB so much, I will not likely go back to stock. Curious if anyway has an idea for a fix for this 1 issue.

i think the problem with the stock keyboard fc'ing on you is related to the fact that libjni_latinime.so had to be replaced, so the stock keyboard is expecting to use the stock library and when it calls this one it pukes

thanks.. I kind of suspected that. Am I correct in assuming I cannot push back the libjni_latinime.so file for my ROM without busting this great KB, correct? It seems like, even though I have the "choice" and can select the stock KB or this D2 KB, if I want this D2 KB I should just accept this forceclose issue on the stock KB as I cannot put back my stock libjni_latinime.so file to fix the forceclose without then busting this D2 KB?

and BTW.. for those on D1 that do what I did, there is not such file called "LatinIME.apk", we have "LatinIMEGoogle.apk". Now, I did expect to see "LatinIME.apk" in there after installing the apk file like I did, but no such file. Odd, no?

I did find a bit of a bug for D1 users...

the multi touch KB will not have certain keys work in certain areas IF you try to use multi touch. For example, if you press and hold the shift key to make some uppercase letters, those letters near the shift key will not register. For example, a,s,d,z,x,q,w,e are all tough or impossible to get to function in multi touch if your holding the shift key.

Wanted to add that this bug only occurs in landscape not portrait. In portrait it's sound but in landscape it cuts half the text that you have typed out in the main texting field and you can only see the bottom half.

Me Likey!

Thanks to those above and their guidance, I now have this working - kudos and yee-haw for this, and the version. I'm so happy, I'll add it to my signature once I figure out how to do that.

I did a quick search through here to see if anyone else had reported it working on skyraider sense 3.1 and didn't see any, so just in case anyone is wondering, it's working fine.

it didn't have a LatinIME.apk file to begin with, it's got a LatinImeGoogle.apk file instead. All i did was copy the .so file from the zip into /system/lib (that file does exist, so make sure to do a backup or rename it to .bak), and then copy the apk from the zip into the /system/app folder, rename it LatinIME.apk, and launch it to install. Not renaming it will cause FC's, so make sure to rename it LatinIME.apk before installing.. hope this helps.

/edit: after looking a little better, i saw that the LatinImeGoogle.apk was already mentioned on a d2, but it's present on the Incredible also.

works well on CM6.0. However the file size is smaller 900kb vs 3.1mb for 2.1? The problem is there are only 2 languages left: English, Spanish. Really need Russian keyboard, since there is no voice recognition for it yet.

According to these news Motorola will release Froyo update (maybe) in late september which should include the full language pack:

Anyone got it working with hero cdma and cyanogenMod 6? It does not work for me. I tried flashing and the old method. I have selected it as input. I don't have FC's, it just doesn't show up.

I am using it on the Droid 1 currently invisiblek and will probably attempt the physical keyboard usage throughout the week. Any issue I get I'll mention.
