I can upload for u home launcher, but im on global developer beta rom miui9 dont know will it work for u. On what rom u are exactly?
Support for miui 10 no root, no unlocked bootloader pls! My 720 hours of waiting to unlock pass on the 24th of October and the ui is just ugly with 4 columns....
Theme method still works for grid size in MIUI 10 without root,
download theme from OP and just google "how to apply 3rd party theme on MIUI 10 without root"
thanks for the answer. on my MIUI 10.0.2 global stable build I can apply 3rd party themes using 'mi rape' or 'my themer', only the themes remain active for about 30 minutes, and after that the system restores the "classic" theme.
i guess i'll just have to wait to unlock the bootloader, root, install eu rom and be done with that.
one workaround that I found was the Android Oreo Pro theme (can be found in the theme store and be applied without conflit by the official MIUI Theme app), which has grid options built in. The only problem with that one is that the icons are kinda small on my mix 2s and without root there is no way to enlarge them ... also there are some bugs regarding this particular theme since it has not been updated to fully support MIUI 10. xiaomi really messed things up for the users that want the freedom to customize MIUI form 9.0 onward.

After 2 hours downloading, extracting deodexing.. bla bla.. i finally take MiHome launcher from mi max with options for grid size.. it will work only on MIUI rom with android 7.0 ( since app has API 24). i personally tested on MIUI global stable 8.5.4.0.
Also to enable options for grid size, phone must be set to max 440dpi.
INSTALL;
Manually replace MiuiHome app to system/priv-app/MiuiHome/ (delete oat folder if u have)
Set permission to 644 ( -rw-r--r-- )
Reboot

UPDATE FOR NEW GRID SIZE OPTIONS IN MIUI9 HOME LAUNCHER USING THEME METHOD ( NO-ROOT )
Easy method to apply grid size options like mi max have in launcher but this time no root or unlocked bootloader needs...how??? Simply download my modded limitless theme, apply theme and done. U will now have a visible options in launcher for 4x5, 4x6, 4x7, 5x5, 5x6, 5x7 grid size

I personally tested on MIUI 9 developer beta, but should work on stable MIUI9.. Test and report please.

Unfortunately this grid size method will works only if u use this limitless moded theme...( i will write a quick tutorial soon how u can apply this to your favorite theme on the fly )
