I will tell you how i got my battery drain out issue fixed:

I reset to factory setting and formatted by device, after that my device is working good. No battery drain out.
Formatting your device, is probably what fixed it. It deleted your problem file(s), on your internal storage. Thanks for the info.

Hi, I was directed to this page from a topic in the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition...I don't have the battery draining problem, but my tablet gets really hot after I put my 64sd card in it...I could not understand how to fix the problem(due to English issues)...but here's my guess:
1) I should remove the SD card from my tablet, put it in my laptop and format it
2) then put it back to the tablet

is that what we're supposed to do?!
and what do I do to put my stuff in SD card back to it?! after doing this can I just take the sd card out of the tablet and put it in laptop?! or I should conncet the tablet to the laptop?!
thanks

You have one, or several corrupt (bad) files on you micro sd card. I bet the heating problem goes away when you remove the card. Is that true? If so, remove the card from your tablet, and put it in your laptop. If there are files on your micro sd card that you want to keep, copy the files from the micro sd card, to the laptop. Then, format the micro sd card. You can format the card from the laptop, but, it is probably better to remove it from the laptop, put it in the tablet and format it.

Now, with the blank, freshly formatted sd card, in the tablet, you should NOT have the heating problem. If the tablet is no longer getting hot, begin to transfer files from the laptop, to the tablet (You can transfer the files, by removing the card and placing it in the laptop, or just plugging the tablet, into the laptop). But, it is IMPORTANT that you only transfer a few files at a time. (Transfer a few files, or folders. Give the tablet at least 10-20 minutes, to index new files, you just added. If the tablet remains cool, add more files. Keep repeating the process, until you find the batch of files, or folder that causes the tablet to begin to heat up again. Now you've isolated the bad file(s). Delete that bad file or files, and everything should be okay.

Sometimes the indexing service, only runs when the screen is on. So you will have to set the screen timeout for a longer interval (maybe 10 minutes), while you are adding, and testing files. If you don't, you may think you have solved the problem, when in reality the tablet cooled down because the tablet when to sleep, causing the indexing services, to also stop.

Let us know if you get your problem fixed. I also have the SM-P600 wifi Note 10.1 2014. It's the same fix for Note 10.1, and the Note 3.

Yes it starts heating up when the SD card is in...
I format the card with laptop a few hours back and put it in the tablet and it got better, but still a little bit heating, the first night I was using it for a long time and there was no heating!! and I really liked the tablet because of that!!lol!
I will format it while in the tablet once again...
question: what if one of those bad files that needs to be removed is a file I really need?!

and another question regarding the battery and charging process...since you have one 10.1 I'm asking you this...so, how should we take care of the battery?! should we wait for the battery to drain fully and then charge it to 100 percent?! or it's better to let it swing between 40 to 80 percent like ion batteries for some cellphones?!

Unfortunately, if the file that's causing your problem is one that you need, the only options are deleting it, or leaving it, and living with the heat, and battery drain.

I use my tablet, each day, and charge it overnight, while I sleep. Like all batteries, there is a limited number of full charges the battery will accept. A simple way to look at the battery's life span, is to think of it as a pie. There are a limited number of slices that can be cut from that pie, before the pie has been completely eaten. If you cut large slices of pie (80-100% charges-- charging when tablet is at 0-20% battery level), you get fewer slices, vs. lots of smaller slices (example, charging when the tablet's battery is 50-70%). But, both pie slice scenarios, still equal one complete pie (100% of the useful life cycle of the battery. The point where it will no longer take a charge). This doesn't take into account, any characteristics of the particular battery type that we are talking about, (NiCad, Lithium ion, ect..). Some types of batteries live longer, if they are completely (not really completely, just mostly) drained, before be being recharged. Where as other types prefer to be topped off, regularly.

I personally don't worry about it, too much. I just charge at night, or sometimes, I'll grab a quick charge when convenient, during the day, if I don't think I'll be near a charger again for a while.

Index Service Battery Drain Solve

I think I stumbled upon a simple fix for an issue, my phone had. The phone would get hot, and drain the battery at a rate of more than 20% an hour. It didn't matter if I had a good, or bad signal, or if I was on wifi, or what I was doing with it, as long as the screen was on, it would drain. I monitored the CPU clock speeds, and noticed all the cores were usually close to being "maxed out". I found "IndexService" (com.samsung.indexservice) was the culprit. As a test, I went to /system/app/, and renamed 'ContentSearch.apk' to 'ContentSearch.bak', and rebooted. The heat/drain was instantly gone. The only problem was, now, my phone's storage wasn't being indexed (obviously). I renamed the file, back to it's original name, and replaced my 64gb micro SD card, with a blank smaller card, I had lying around. Problem gone!.

I copied the contents of the 64gb card, to my computer, and deleted most of the files from the card. I re-inserted it, and added files back, a few at a time, until I found the folder that was causing the problem.

Let me know if this works for you.

tldr; Problem is caused by a file (possibly PDF) on the SD card.
I was having the same problem, I was able to resolve as follows:
1-Disconnect your appliance
2-Remove the SIM CARD
3-connect the device without the SIM CARD
4-Remove the SD Card
5-make a backup of the data
6-Format the SD Card in FAT32 for PC
7-restore the Backup of your files to the SD Card for PC
8-insert the SD Card into the unit
9-Problem Solve

Good job. The method may be different, but the result is the same. Thanks for the update.

Indexservice never stops due to some kind of PDF files !!

Hi, like I wrote in another thread, I spent half a day trying to understand what was driving nuts the indexservice service (sorry for the word pun), and I'm sure I found what it was. In my case I'm absolutely sure they are a kind of PDF documents, to be more precise, if I save on the SD Card or Internal Memory this kind of PDF files (they came from the FIGC, the Italian Football Federation site), the service "indexservice" starts and never stop, nor if I delete the PDF file from the phone or card !! I have lots of other PDF file on the SD Card, even very big PDF files with more than 400 pages, and the indexservice, when I copy them on the phone, just came up, works for a few seconds, and goes away, like it supposes to work !! If I can help someone, I attach to this POST one of this PDF file (obviously is in Italian, but I don't think it really matters !)

Bye and hope Google or Samsung (don't know who really cause the problem) will solve this problem that is a really annoying BUG !!!

Pino

It's good, you finally narrowed it down to one pdf. Thanks for the update.

I hope that someone here can send the PDF file to Samsung to let them test with Google's Team for a final solution, that I hope there will be in the OS version 5.0 (Lollipop) !

Thanks, and hope they will get rid of this annoying BUG ;)

Bye,
Pino

I have been having the same type of issues that you described with battery drain/overheat issues. Basically if the screen is on the battery drain was pretty significant. Even with most things turned off (Wifi, Bluetooth, NFC, Locations) I would lose about 1% every 4 mins even if I wasn't using the phone much. I did have several 20+ page PDFs on internal storage, so I will see if deleting those helps like some have suggested.

I don't think the size of the pdf matters, but I am confident that you have a "corrupt" file. Once you delete it, your problems will disappear. Keep us informed.

Well I deleted the PDF's, restarted, tested it again and I still lose about 1% every 4 mins that the screen is on. It seems to be regardless if I am on Wifi or 3G. Even if I close down all my applications and just let the phone sit, it still looses the same amount of battery.

You may have to start from scratch, and remove remove everything from the internal AND external storage, and add them back, a few at a time. On a french language forum, some found other file types, caused their problems, such as mp3.

Ok, let me try that and see if I can narrow it down that way. I used to be able to get great battery life, but I just noticed it about a week ago and I don't remember what all was installed when the problem occurred. Let me start with removing everything from the internal storage. I don't have any external storage yet. I was actually waiting till Black Friday to see if I could find a decent priced SD card.

I deleted all my documents and it still had the same battery drain. I deleted all the music (none of my own music, it was only a couple app notification sounds and the one music file that it comes with), and then I got better battery usage. I am now getting 1% for every 8 mins, which is a big improvement over only 1% every 4 mins!

My test was done over the course of 30 mins to get a good average battery drain with the screen on.
