Hey guys, coming to the inspire from a captive has got me thinking of an easier way to get rooted, without the goldcard.

I believe it may have to start out with someone who is rooted already and installed rom manager, and created the ClockworkMod recovery.

This will give a update.zip file.

If someone has this update.zip file created for the inspire, possibly they can share it in this post.

Then all that we should have to do is copy the update.zip file to the sdcard, and also the rom that you want to flash with rom manager.

Boot into recovery, install update, reboot into recovery (automatic i think) and then install zip file from sd card and follow the instructions.

This is how I used to install customs roms on the captivate, and should work with the inspire.
You will have root as long as the custom rom has root.

Any thoughts on this idea??
Im willing to try it if someone can donate an update.zip file

Unlike the Captivate, the NAND is locked. This means unsigned (unencrypted) files can't be loaded onto the phone. clockwork's update zip will simply not load.

The goldcard process isn't all that hard honestly. It's the easiest part of the hack kit and the only part that can't be scripted because every sdcard has its own unique identifier number that can't be faked.

In retrospect I think samsung left the SGS so hackable because they knew the dev community could do a better job than they could :D

I to coming from capptivate thought there might be an easier method if we could use temp root to push the needed files to root.

A quick question about Gold Card. Once I make one and root the phone, will the SD card in the phone have to be a Gold Card? For instance I purchase a card with more storage. Do I have to make that one a gold card or can I just stick it in and away I go?

It's just required for root. After that you can remove it :)

Sent from my Desire HD or Inspire 4G or whatever this thing is called via XDA app.

Exactly, the GC I used for the Inspire I actually made over a year ago when I rooted my Hero.

Skipping that step was :D
I was under the impression that each individual phone had a unique mmc device identifier and that's why we had to get the utility from the market to read that identifier.

This must not be the case?

I was wondering about that myself. As to why Samsung made it so easy. 15 second root was great

The gold card process puts a bootloader.img file on your sd card that is specifically coded to that specific SD card, sure you can use the card that came with the phone. I did, then I put it in a drawer because I have a 16GB card for my phone anyway.
