They cant prove anything. Google ships once they get confirmation that you sent phone in from usps, Verizon ships first yes. I guess its only an issue if you never sent the phone back and end up with 2. Guess you would take a credit hit. I for one, went through google, then Verizon which sent me unlocked one. Call it what you want but I now have unlocked Pixel 2 XL which was paid for by TMobile.
its difficult to prove yes lol but if u say i got burn in and return a cracked phone theyll surely catch u lol

but yes, as i stated was just tryna scare the person who didnt read lol.. of course its near impossible to "prove" someone isnt having battery drain or touch is wonky etc etc

lol wow.. took him longer to type that post than it would have for him to read through the thread haha

but for the sake of "contributing" ill fill him in:

1) You need Verizon service. I do not know how it would work if u started service with an already purchased device even if its a verizon device. Some companies have rules/restrictions on when insurance n such can be added.
2) Verizon users with vzw locked p2xl calls verizon, talks to tech, tells em whats wrong with their phone and after troubleshooting if eligible they send an RMA device.
3) A lot of users who had an RMA sent from Ft. Worth Texas have had good luck. However, there are NO FACTS as to hpw this works or if youll even get a unlocked version or not as some have got vzw ones back.
4) IT ISNO GUARANTEE, IT IS THE LUCK OF THE DRAW.
5) THIS IS NOT TO MAKE SOMETHING UP JUST TO TRY AND GET AN UNLOCKED VERSION, THAT IS FRAUD.
5) If you contact Google for a replacement you will almost certainly get a VZW device back if that is what you purchased.
6) Where you ship the return device doesnt matter but usually is a wherehouse in Ft. Worth.

Judging by your questions it would seem you are debating how to replace ur locked p2xl with an unlocked one.. I just hope if u do go this route you have a legitimate reason..

you might be the first one to get caught and have to pay for 2 phones at full retail lol
My grandma ordered me a Verizon pixel 2 xl from the Google store then she past away. That's why I'm trying to get the Unlocked one. She knew I used Verizon. I talked to the Google store and they can't help me v

Sorry about your grand mother. What are you taking about outside her death? How does the pixel fit into this? If you got a Pixel and want to return it perhaps you can sell it? Personally I'd keep it simply because she was kind enough to buy it for me. But that's just me not saying you should do or feel the same.

Yea I just did this because my phone came with a dead pixel, unfortunately I received a Verizon version and the Bootloader was still locked. Shipped from Illinois. From what I gather, it seems if you go through Verizon for the replacement then you have a better chance of getting the PlayStore version in return. I went through Googles telephone tech support and they sent me another Verizon version of the 2XL, but it was a brand new one in the box with all accessories, and I did standard RMA where you need to send your device first, It was 72 hours total from the time I dropped my phone off at the post office in my town to the time my new phone was in my hand, so thats def an awesome aspect.

I have Verizon pixel 2 XL, purchased from offerup brand new but no receipt. Should I go through Verizon or Google for replacement? Do they need proof of purchase? I'm using it with T-Mobile sim

How is there no receipt if you purchased it? If I were Verizon or Google, I'd definitely want proof of purchase! They'll probably tell you to take it back to where you bought it from.

I looked through many pages and searched a few different ways, but after 12-15 minutes of searching through text I haven't found a concise answer. So my question is:

Do the Verizon and Google variants of the Pixel 2 XL have the same device codenames? I bought a Verizon variant off Swappa for a great price with the expectation that I'd have to wait for a workaround for the bootloader to be unlocked, but when I adb to my bootloader, it tells me it's a "taimen" device. I'm assuming both variants share a codename and the only real noticeable difference is that the OEM Unlock option is grayed out in Developer Settings. Can someone please confirm for me?

I'm sorry if this was answered in a very obvious place somewhere else, and was easily located somewhere on this site or elsewhere. I'll fully admit to my noob status in navigating XDA.

Here's a picture of my bootloader information page for reference. Again, seller said this is a Verizon variant, and the OEM Unlock button is grayed out. I'm just looking for validation of what I think is the case. https://imgur.com/ujQJ0Af

I purchased a Verizon variant through Best Buy. Had two Dead Pixels on my screen and chatted with Google and they sent me an RMA replacement. They sent be a brand new one in box, with a Verizon SIM in it. Set up only on WiFi then put it AT&T SIM card. OEM Unlock is still greyed out but it doesn't matter to me. I no longer root phones. Just wanted to let you guys know. Phone shipped from Carol Stream, IL.

Question for pixel 2 xl Google version users

if someone unlocked his bootloader on the pixel 2 xl the google version, i want to know this :

before you toggle the oem unlocking did you connect to internet during the setup or after the setup then you went to dev options and enabled the oem unlocking then performed the bootloader unlocking without problem ?

Thank you.

I connected to the net first to do my setup. Then enabled developer options, then enabled OEM and USB debugging. Then unlocked the bootloader. It all went perfectly without a hitch :good:
