Praying (and Paying) for Root with Bounty

I have always rooted every one of my devices dating back to my og. That said, it seems it's getting harder and harder to gain root on some of these new devices. Doesn't Xposed work on non rooted devices? If so, won't that along with a new launcher satisfy the craving for root? I'm asking because my next phone will probably be the V10 and I'm fearful root might not be gained.

I haven't seen XPosed work for a non rooted phone... If the new XPosed does I am not aware.

Just curious as to what people think are the key reasons for rooting these days.
I have a note 3 and will be looking to upgrade to this when it comes to the UK.
My note 3 is rooted and I did it mainly to get more advance features for Tasker.
Now I very rarely use Tasker so don't think I will be rooting my next phone unless there is a good reason to?

Cheers

Honestly for me I don't need root anymore. Marshmallow is finally where I need Android to be so I don't need to constantly customize it. Apps can backup data natively now so I don't need TiBu. I never use Xposed (hate it with a passion). So not much else out there that requires root.

I don't even need it for adblocking anymore since I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/adguard-ad-blocker-doesnt-require-root-t2958895
The best part about that app is that I can easily whitelist websites I don't want to block.

So when I get my V10 I won't be rooting it. I'm also tired of the constant swapping of ROMs and bugs in those ROMs. It just isn't worth it to me anymore.

Patiently waiting to buy one of these, mainly for the new sabre dac, but without root access, I doubt I would ever buy this device. Why are LG devices more difficult to root than HTC or Samsung devices? I have not used a LG device since a G1 years ago.

Gotta have xposed/xprivacy and titanium

This looks like a type of device blisspop, resurrection and aicp will support. When all the nexus 5x and 6p hype dies down, people will recognize this beauty

Well, that's assuming there is enough interest to be able to open up the bootloader on this puppy. We do not know if it will even be possible, things have been getting tighter and tighter across all major manufacturers, driven both by manufacturer's wanting their phones to be more secure and carriers pressuring them not to release the bootloader info to developers. LG seems to be the last major manufacturer that would release the code needed to unlock the bootloader but in the case of the G3 were basically stone walled by AT&T and I am not sure about the other carriers......

I have hope, however as I said... Nothing rides on it for me, this device is going to be amazing with or without bootloader access, no matter what reviews you watch of any channel they all say and show you this phone is the snappiest phone they have used running android to date. Even pulling up an app in the very back of your recents it is practically instantaneous. I am so excited for this phone. I want it now darnit!

Well. If LG wants to be a strong contender, they better get their minds focused on the people that buy their phones not the people that try to sell it

You don't need root for wi-fi tether. FoxFi app works fine. Albeit not as streamlined as a baked in wi-fi hack, it works nonetheless.
Thats not always the case. I have tried on many phones, and foxfi didn't always work. Often has to bluetooth tether, or even usb. Its just not the same.

I really dont see the need for root as much with the drastic improvement with android in the last 3 years. But when it comes down to saving $360 a year for something I use very little, it is pretty important.

I just don't see why its so hard to make a new padfone that would work on verizon. Have it be a Lenovo Thinkpad Droid. 5-6" phone that docks into a 11" tablet, that has a full size keyboard. Motorola radios, big batteries, maybe removable. Windows 10 with microsoft android runtime for app support. done deal.

I have no doubts that there will be a few methods to obtaining root. The real question to be answered is regarding bootloader.

Personally doesn't matter, but I'm sure tons here are waiting to see.

Roll Tide!
Unlocked bootloader would be great. Especially since not many manufacturers and carriers are not letting us have them. Does the G4 have the bootloader unlocked? If so I would bet it would carry on to the v10

A bit worried by the lack of custom support for LG V10 in our Android Development sections. I'm desperate to buy this phone but will have to rethink if there's not enough community for it.

Yeah, I would also like to get this but it has not made much impact in Korea which is a shame.

I'm hoping they ignore that and continue to roll it out to the UK

Quick question was is the difference between root and getting access to the bootloader?

I think the market is a bit different over there..

The difference is with root access only you can run apps that require root permissions and you have root access to your phone, with a bootloader unlock you can change the ROM, Kernel, and recovery of the device.

With root you can still run all your favorite root apps. With bootloader unlock we can run our favorite Custom ROMs like CM.

That's not exactly right. The difference is that with an unlocked bootloader you can have custom kernel. Also it's easier to have a custom recovery. But this is possible to have a recovery on locked bootloader. And you can have a custom ROM, but it has to be based on stock firmware, not on AOSP (especially related to kernel that must be stock).

To be clear, on unlocked bootloader you can have custom kernel and AOSP based ROM, on locked bootloader only stock kernel and custom stock based ROM.

I don't know if Framaroot will work on a v10 or not, but I can say the screenshots they show as "proof" of a v10 root are not from a v10. Take a look at the on-screen buttons at the bottom for example. I hope that it does work, but I don't believe those screenshots are from a v10.
