I've been an EeePad (Asus Transformer) user for a few years now and just last week the battery died...it won't hold a charge...I sold it on Ebay (full disclosure) and got a Xoom tablet...I'm pretty excited about it.

Sweet, the Xoom is an awesome tablet. I purchased the Bluetooth keyboard case and now it's a Xoom transformer! :D

Nothing personal but you have to question the intelligence in buying a Xoom right after its AOSP support ends
Even with no AOSP support, Xoom is still an amazing device for it's price, yea he could get a N7, but that's a 7 inches screen, I see oranges and apples there... Anyway, soon developers will continue the great work on Xoom with custom ROMs and soon may we get a stable 4.2 ROM. My crappy X10 mini pro (600Mhz processor and 256Mb RAM) got Android 4.1.1 with the hard work of developers, why Xoom can't handle 4.2? Yea it took months, but still worked.

It doesn't stop being functional but it definitely has a LOT less to offer than even the N7. Plus the Tegra 2 is ancient and weaker than some Single core processors (like the hummingbird).
Accidentally gave you a thanks... BTW, yeah the processor is outdated, but when you compare a 7 inches tablet to see 10 inches tablet I see apples and oranges, they are completely different devices! What is better: watch a movie on a 26 inches tv or any 42 inches tv? As a great movie fan I can really say that is better the 42 inches tv. What is better? Play games on a 15 inches notebook or on a 13 inches? For sure the 15 inches... But what is the easier to carry the 15 inches one or the 13 inches one? The 13 inches for sure! The same happens to tablets, you can't compare the 7 inches one to the 10 inches one, they are for different things :)

Kind of a lateral move- same processor, form factor, etc. At least there should be some good AOSP ROMs coming out for the xoom. Hope the price was seriously low. I'm still weighing whether I want to move up to the N10 - depends on 4.2 ROMs for the xoom, as the feature I most desired was multi user.

The Xoom's 10" LCD is inferior to the N7's 7" IPS with higher contrast at the same resolution.

With the obvious exception of 3.1"....

If I could have done it cheaply, I'd have gotten another outdated transformer...I'm not looking to spend tons of cash and go "latest and greatest"....just want to read emails and watch netflix... :)

The 7 probably would've cost about the same. As long as you're happy with your purchase that's all that matters.

I just personally wouldn't invest money in a "dead-end" device at this point.

I dont see this device as a "dead-end" device. Honestly you cant expect this to keep getting endless updates, but at the same time the device is still awesome IMO. I got tired of my iPad and traded someone for this. Maybe you wouldnt have done it, but I'm not sorry I did it. I'm very happy with my Xoom. And I know if i want to further update it until it crashes and burns, I'm able to, thanks to ROM developers out there. Yea, maybe other tablets are better, but for my needs, I'm Xooming right along without any problems

It appears that we have differing primary objectives in the tablet market:

Me: 10" screen and work well, at least as good as my 2 year old transformer.

You: Making sure that you don't buy outdated/unsupported hardware.

I'm happy.

I have both a Xoom 32 GB WiFi and a Nexus 7. Both have their value and one is preferred over the other for certain tasks and entertainment.
The Xoom is an incredible tablet and still holds its own when compared to many others on the market, especially if it can be bought at a cheap price.
Overall I much prefer to use a 10" tablet over that of a 7" version but, as with apples and oranges, each to their own.

Enjoy your Xoom it is a superb piece of kit.

I've had my Xoom WiFi for about six months, I've GEDifid it right away as I'm in the UK and it wasn't going to get the updates as fast.
this is a great device even if the support has stopped, its only just stopped and the device isn't going to blow up lol

I'm running the final official version 4.1.1 and its running super smooth, fast I love it.

I'm sure your get a few years great use out of it, the best thing about android is the developers community you know your going to get updates until it just won't take anymore.

long live the original Google Experience Device.
