This would solve the no SD Card slot and fixed battery issues and those that want Sense and SD slot plus removable battery have best of both worlds.. :)

As you can see, many important functions do not work in the said port, making it almost impossible to use as a daily device.

It's already hard enough porting mods between HTC devices, let alone a whole ROM from a different manufacturer.
It still can be done .. difficulty was not part of the original question I posed ;) It should not be too difficult either, use a samsung rom and add the sense bits/apps etc. and modify the kernel to include the sense specific portions .. :) I was really just asking if anyone was already embarking on this project and it appears that there is already an effort underway, I'll join the dev effort in the event I buy an S3 :)

Difficulty means porting takes more time, by the time porting is completed new flagships might have come out.
Also HTC source code is NOT open source like Android source code, so it isn't just a matter of copy-pastaing framework files and HTC apps over to a S3 ROM, as they have to be modified, which most likely will need source code to work with. Unfortunately HTC puts Sense on their devices to differentiate them from other manufacturers, so if Sense could be easily copied no one would have reason to buy HTC or any other specific brands.
One X to rule them all.
