Problem when switching to Airave signal

Maybe someone is having a similar issue. Having an problem with phone "locking" onto the Airave if I come from an outside tower signal. Been missing tons of calls & texts with both my Sprint number and Google Voice. The only way I can fix it is if I toggle airplane mode as soon as I walk into the door. Is there a setting I'm overlooking somewhere? Phone is completely stock.
