Problem with xoom MZ604

Hi guys.

Bought a S/H xoom wifi 32gb yesterday (UK) and I have a few issues with it.
When I go into recover (3e) and I try to apply update from SD card (trying to root with root file from this site) , the system doesnt "see" the SD card, tried a 512mb and an 8gb card, formatted in FAT & FAT32, it just says it failed to mount SD card.
The SD card works fine in the OS (4.0.4) , I can read and write to the card, but recovery doesnt see it. Any ideas? or is the another way I can root it so I can put jellybean on it? Any help appreciated.

Ok got it done.

After flashing r6 recovery everything started working, now running Nightlies 4.2.1
