The adapter above looks great and says it has a "decoder chip." Someone asked on their site if it worked with a Pixel 2 -- one person said yes and another said no. So I figured for $5 or whatever I'd try it.
Does not work. Triggers the "analog accessory" popup.
Just in case anyone else is looking. I like that form factor.
