Hey, all
First, thanks for all the great info in all the threads I've been lurking on. You guys are beasts (that's a good thing).

I'm currently running Beans's rooted NC2 in the stock slot of SS 3.72, with a couple Wanam tweaks to make things look less Samsungy. About once a day, my status bar disappears and I get a notification that the systemui process has stopped. The only way out of this is to reboot, and turning off my Wanam tweaks hasn't seemed to help.

Is anyone else seeing this? I couldn't find any posts about it on here. Any ideas?

Thanks again, y'all.

Wanam shouldn't do that on it's own. What other mods are you running, themes, apps, etc..

Hey, Lefty!

Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you. I have a few other Xposed modules active, but nothing that seems too volatile:

AppOpsXposed 1.17.2
Buttered Toast 1.1
CrappaLinks 2.6
Disable Clear Defaults Dialog 1.0
Disable Battery Full Alert 1.0
Google Play Music Listen Later 1.1
KeepChat 3.2.3

As far as themes, I have only the visual tweaks from Wanam, and those are few. I use Nova Prime for my launcher and I'm fond of trying different icon packs, but again, nothing out of the ordinary.

Is there anything in particular you were expecting to hear? Maybe I'm inadvertently omitting something.

Thanks again!

Yeah nothing you listed should mess with systemui like that. Only thing I could think to try is wipe data for systemui in system/app mgr. Other than that a clean flash...

Mods I was looking for were things like adding toggles, etc... things you flash onto a rom.

I'll try wiping the data and see how that works over a few days. Worst case is I'll reflash Sunday or Monday. I'm really hoping I can get something like the SlimBean I had on my old S3 on here sometime soon, but since I'm no dev, who am I to complain :p

Thanks again!

this is a possibility, kernel modules being enabled makes it so kexec can work which then means aosp roms could work as well..

although alot of work has to be done to get kexec working on the note3. ALOT. but the hole for it is officially there :D
Dear BeansTown106, I am trying to Flash a Rom on my Verizon Note 3, I am on android 4.4.2, Model:SM-N900V, baseband version: N900VVRUCNC4 and I need to use Odin 3, the problem I am having is when I try to flash this firmware >>>- MJE tar file>> ( ALL_N900VVRUBMJE_N900VVZWMJE_2106277_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5.7z ) Odin does NOT see the firmware tar file when the PC is browsed and the file that it is installed in is opened, Odin will see other files , but not the MJE tar file, I even opened it with 7 zip and Odin still does not see it , also Safe strap 3.72 will not install every time I open the app up nothing but a blank screen shows up and I tried to root with towelroot, it didnt work is there any way to root this device so that I can flash back to android 4.3 ?, can you give me some advice on what I should do or what I am doing wrong , here are the instructions that I am going by >>>>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48627708#post48627708. Dear wilspeak,

If you could ever so kindly let me know what tar you've downloaded, and what the extension of the file is. Perhaps it needs to be extracted in a different fashion, or perhaps you could remove the .md5 from the .tar.md5 extension. Let me know :)

Doesn't matter what you do, you can NOT go back to MJE once you are on NC4.

So, help me understand this. Any kernel module? Does that mean... It works as a Dev version would? Any aosp / ge ROM would work eventually?

Same kind of process? Still not a true unlocked boatloader though?
this is a possibility, kernel modules being enabled makes it so kexec can work which then means aosp roms could work as well..

Any update on this exciting news?

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

If you've installed the new Kitkat leak for the Verizon Note 3 (and you really really should install it -- see below for reasons why):

MAKE SURE YOU NEVER TAKE ANY OTA.

Here is a brief (and yet startling) list of advantages to the leaked Kitkat build that could be done away with in ANY future OTA for the Note 3:
  • At anytime you can use ODIN to go back to 4.3 for root, disaster recovery etc.
  • This leaked Kitkat build allows for *ANY* compatible kernel module to be used. Unlike any previous Note 3 build ever. No whitelist security is in place to block kernel modules which are not "approved". (pointed out by @ryanbg)
  • It's Kitkat but SElinux permissive. Also very very rare.

There are so many unique things about this build, that every user who installs it should treat it like gold and avoid OTAs like the plague.

For more information on the leak:
http://sxtpdevelopers.com/samsung-galaxy-note-3-verizon/

How to maintain root and use the leaked files:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2726558

And a new Safestrap for use with the new KK build (you'll need a 4.3 compatible Safestrap for the root process and a 4.4 compatible Safestrap for use after upating):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517610

If you ever get a chance make sure to send thanks over to sxtpdevelopers (I don't think he has an XDA username anymore).
Hashcode, When I brought the Note 3 it was on the NC4 verizon updated KK , so I tried to install the MJE tar file (ALL_N900VVRUBMJE_N900VVZWMJE_2106277_REV03_user_l ow_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5.7z) for some unknown reason the device would NOT flash it and failed with a soft brick serveral times. So I tried some of the other files from this link >>>>(http://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=9322) and the only one that would work is the (N900VVRUCNC4_N900VVZWCNC4_N900VVRUCNC4_HOME.tar.m d5.7z ) <<NC4 FILE , and it turns out SS versions 3.75 , 3.65 will NOT install nor does KINGO , Towelroot or Vroot root work. and I have tried the flashing and rooting this device serveral times with the same results, ZERO . What im I doing wrong or is it the device ? and what can I use from this website that would help >>>http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=sh...iles&flid=8674 that will help me . And Thank You in advance for your advice.

I just needed to know some information. I dont know everything like everyone else does, and this is a new device and I have to be honest , I didnt know a lot about it and needed to ask a question ot two . Excuse if I bothered anyone, I thought that what this forum was about helping and learning about android. Thank You

Also lefty , I was NOT addressing you in my question . I would not have been that rude to you, as you were to me. If you read both statements they are both totally different from each other. Plenty of other people comment and ask questions on these forums, just like I have done and I did nothing wrong. Maybe YOU need to read those FORUM RULES too .

Actually nothing I referenced has to do with being rude. #1 search before posting. Your question was answered in a thread you created, and in others. #2.5 read forum rules. #5 do not ask the same question in multiple threads. You asked the same question 3 times within an hour. Regardless of who you are asking, asking a question in an open forum may get responses from others. If you want to direct questions to a specific individual (or individuals), and do not want a response by others, the preferred method is via pm.

And I am sorry if you felt I was rude. I am just a "straight to the point" guy. As a nuclear proffesional (as I am), I assumed you would see that. But I am sorry. If you need to continue this, please pm me.

To answer your question, you cannot flash back to MJE. The boot loader files on our phones have a special 'counter'. Usually when there is an important update to fix (for example) a security flaw, a bug, or etc.. that counter increments up one value. MJE has a counter value of '2', while the NC4 OTA has a counter value of '3'. The counter value cannot count down, only up. The value of the counter is written into the boot loader file that you flash to your phone, so your phone checks it and will know that the update is old and blacklisted. So once you are at '3', you are stuck with firmware that has a counter value of '3', which in our case, only NC4 has.

There is a muted ray of light for your situation though. NC4 kernel/boot image was patched for the towelroot exploit. I believe that you can flash the NC2 boot.img to your device, and use it alongside the rest of the NC4 files. You will need to create a flashable .tar file on Linux or Mac OS X. If I get some free time soon, I can make you this file and we can give it a shot. There is the risk of blowing the warranty bit, because I don't have a full NC4 device so I don't know how it will react, but it's worth a shot.

If I undestand correctly, I can install a custom kernel on NC2 Verizon Note 3 even if the bootlocker is locked?

This is the kernel for NC2. It is signed and packaged to be flashed in Odin. Wilspeak, you will want to flash the full NC4 tar first, and let it boot up normally. Then restart and boot into Download/Odin mode again, and flash this file. This is downgrade your kernel to NC2 (which is better for a few reasons.) Most importantly, this kernel is vulnerable to towelroot. I must warn you first, I am not sure if they blacklisted the kernel on NC4, so there IS a possibility it will blow your warranty bit, however I do not believe this to be the case and I think you are fine to flash it. I just wanted to give a fair warning. Good luck, and let me know if it works.

@ryanbg, I flashed The JasmineRom , in settings the kernal version says>>( 3.4.0 [email protected]), should I still flash the kernel ? in the link >>http://d-h.st/VwP that you were so nice to provide me and others. I also have SS 3.75 installed and the app says safe strap system : not active , so now I have to go into the app in order to boot into recovery, how do I activate SS so that I can go boot into recovery in the shut down menu ? I thank you for your help and advice @ryanbg
