No different firmware and kernel. Wouldn't boot.

Aaah. hmm... I really wanna take a leak for a spin, but I don't wanna harm the existing custom ROM I use as my main and I don't wanna accidentally put myself up a creek. Seems like the leak's gonna be all I need, though, considering the fact that it has laxer security than most of the GN3's official roms. Any really bad bugs with it?

Some have experienced signal issues but a different modem usually fixes that. If u flash nc2 u can always go back to mje if u hate it. Just nandroid ur current setup in case u ever want to restore it on mje. Imo nc2 has been great after changing modems. The custom roms are all fantastic for kk.

Cool! Got Kitkat loaded -- gonna go for a more AOSPish custom ROM on top of that, like what I did with MJE. The hugeass default UI's kinda offputting. Any recommended modem firmware I ought to go with?

Can anyone point me in the right direction to flash the stock NC2 or NC4 recovery on this ROM? i cannot seem to find the appropriate file. I want to stay on the NC2 bootloader and kernel, and just upgrade the recovery (and modem would be fine as well)

Thanks

I have a question for you guys and I apologize in advance if this has already been answered. Don't have time to look through the whole thread because I'm really on a time limit. I was running beans nc2, rooted. Sold the phone to someone who wants to use it mainly for tethering. He had some issues getting a new sim and activating it so he sent it back to me to return it to stock, which I did and sent it back with the explicit instructions not to let it take the update. Long story short, he took the update. It's just downloaded, he hasn't actually installed it yet. I guess my question is, did he screw the pooch and loose any chance to go back, with no root or being able to tether? Thanks in advance.

If he didn't install the ota he should be ok. Even if he did towelroot will root nc4 and then he can install ss and custom rom.

I bought my note 3 with NC2 and took the Kit Kat update. Then I was on NC4. Then towel root landed with safestrap. Rooted and installed SS. Then I downloaded Jasmine ROM v1.7 NC4. Then it had me odin NC2 modem. My service SUCKS!! I want to flash MJE or MJ7 in odin.... Can I do that without a brick or complications? I have download both of them (modem.tar) files. Thanks in advance abs pm's are cool with me!

Hey guys!

Verizon is sending me a new Note 3, right now I am on MJE with Beans latest version from 1/1/14, if the phone has Kit Kat what is the best way to revert to this version. I have not updated my phone in 5 months and forgot totally what the right next steps are.

WOULD REALLY REALLY appreciate any help / take any recommendations, since I am trying to figure out how I can root the new phone if it has kit kat as well.

Thanks so much!

LMFAO.... I just posted about my current situation with needed modem help... just today I received a replacement vzw note 3 hoping it would be NOT on NC4 kit Kat... well it sure is in NC4.... so anyone have a good idea what I should do with this nc4 factory sent replacement phone? My note 3 is fully functioning so I really could just send it back and tell them nc4 had NO service so I'm keeping my current phone. Should I do something else with this fresh, never connected note 3 from vzw? Since it is factory sent with nc4 then all I have going is root isn't ur?

dpoverlord.... towelroot is a one-click rooting tool packaged as an APK. Download it from Towelroot.com (click on the lambda symbol), run the APK on your phone (Google will warn you that the app bypasses Android’s defenses – that’s normal), click “make it ra1n”, and away you go.

I am going to be in your boat soon, the only reason verizon is sending me a new phone is that my battery is not holding a charge. I can do what you just said and send it back to them.

What do you think is the best method, I would like a shiny spanking new phone.... but if I get NC4 am I SOL? What do we do if it comes with NC4? Can we go back to:

@dpoverlord: My experience has been that the official NC4 OTA is definitely a one-way street. There's no way to revert from NC4 back to MJE, etc. However, towelroot works just dandy, as well as SafeStrap 3.75. These tools, and specific instructions like you've found, should get you into a custom ROM without much hassle. I'm using BajaROM v16.1 July 4th edition...I freaking love it. Next up is AllianceROM & I can't wait. JellyBean ROMs, not likely, as far as I understand right now (admittedly limited grokking of r00t concepts). Anyway, hope some of that helped.

So if the phone comes with NC4, I SOL or I can use towelroot then safestrap to revert back to Beans Kit Kat post?

Appreciate the help.

Yes u can use towleroot then safestrap. And you can flash beans kk post or any other kk rom for vzw. Most will require u odin the nc2 kernel for it to boot. U can't go back to nc2 or mje bootloader.

Hey, @jrbxx7,

I really wanted to flash the build in beans KK post (I believe you're talking about the NC2 rooted odex/deodex variant). I tried multiple times to get the NC2 kernel flashed via Odin, following the instructions in that thread. Each time I flashed I received what I think was a PIT file error. I say that because the only way I could fix it was to replace the PIT file @BeansTown106 uploaded (found in another thread). The only thing I didn't try was to flash the NC2 kernel with the PIT file at the same time. I admit my tolerance had thinned considerably by that time. And once I had Baja up and running I just breathed easy and didn't think about it again.

However, reading your reply has got me curious. Was the only thing I missed/messed up that I didn't flash the kernel with the PIT file? Now if that's the case, I'd love some further insight/guidance on how to achieve NC2 rooted from NC4. Please drop me a reply/PM if you're willing to help me sort that out...I'd love to be on NC2.

Thanks,
Scott :fingers-crossed:
