IMO its a waste, but its good to see the community working on it for people who maybe don't have the skill to do other things like building their own device or maybe don't have the money to spend on a device. Since they already have a cell phone capable of doing the hack, then so be it.

Im just saying, everytime I flash a new kernel or rom, it seems my battery life starts getting wacky and I have to recalibrate my phone's battery everytime. You know how much it sucks to see your phone drop 10% in like 15 minutes or less when you flash something new?

This solution just doesn't seem to be for me. I am building boards with PIC18F2550 and flashing them with my programmer. This is a better solution, at least for myself.

That's all you need, and you don't need some of the resistors, basically anything connecting to pins 21-27 on the PIC is not needed.

Do any of your posts on xda construe optimism or not knock one dev or another?

I don't even have a PS3, but I saw an opportunity to help out. Its pretty simple, if it doesn't suit you, then what are you doing in the thread in the first place? I don't recall the title being anything like "How ideal a situation is this for you?"

i've been following this thread and i followed the instructions and succesfully "hacked" my ps3..........thinking it was permanently hacked!

thanks to everyone for the effort and great info, but I think I'll be buying one of those little dev boards so i can keep it attached to my ps3 all the time.

This is a great solution for me, I just leave adrynalyne's installer on my sdcard and when I want to start up the ps3 I install it through rom manager, connect the usb, and once it's done booting I do an advanced restore > restore boot through rom manager.
I'm sure if you left a hydra/king kernel installer on your sdcard you could restore it just as fast, but this is still a very easy and free way to do it.

Thanks adrynalyne, you're awesome. Between this kernel and frankenrom my Incredible pretty much runs on your work. :D

Someone bug Koush and find out where he has stashed the cm6 kernel source. Then I can port that as well. Until then, I cannot do it. I need the source.

Ah man, with college starting back up my free time has almost dropped to nil (or null if you prefer programming lingo =p). I really need to build my own PIC flasher, as there have been so many projects I have not been able to do with my 8-pin "development board". I traded all of my old Sega Genesis/Sega CD/32x hardware and games a couple years ago with a guy on e-Bay for about 15 REAL Nintendo Controllers + 15 REAL Super Nintendo Controllers (which I planned to USB-ify and give some away to friends and sell the rest) as well as handful of extra parts and some special carts (which I requested as I had/have plans for using some of them as enclosures for upcoming projects).

Okay sorry that was a bit random, also TNS201, I'm sure you know this, but if you say you are at an engineering school or with an electronics company, Microchip will send you "samples" of just about any chip in just about any reasonable quantity. I always tell people to not abuse that method though, since they are pretty forthcoming with their samples if you just submit a request... but if there is ever a new 80$ chip or something you see that you want to play around with, it's worth a go =p.

On yeah, back OT, thanks again adrynalyne for working on this, even if it's not for everybody (also I would have thought you would have Koush's number on speed-dial by now, lol).
