Hi all,

I have bought this model from Pumkin (1024x600, 2gb)

Model Number E0133
MCU Version R0HST16052800

CPU-Z tells me it's a RK3188 chipset, so we should be good.

Then we take a look at MCU version:

Uh, what is this?
So it's not a MTCB, MTCD... ?

I try dozen of times to access recovery mode using this method they mention on their website ( http://www.autopumpkin.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14 )

Just long press the power button without release, and while short press the RST button on the radio itself. You may hear 3 beep sound comes out from the HU. Then you can release the power button, the HU will automatically enter into the recovery mode.

But it doesn't work, I can't enter recovery and the only thing it does (from time to time when I change slightly the timing and order of buttons) is to automatically erase and restore the device, there is no recovery shown.

So how can I access the recovery mode?
Also, being a RK3188 chipset but MCU version not showing anything familiar, I guess it's totally unsafe to try to flash anything on it?

Thanks!

Hi have the same device and i'm wondering about the same things like hayatesan. I think about flashing some new custom roms (like malaysk), but the MCU version makes me unsure to continue that plan.
Any suggestions, advices or hints regarding our plan?

Just to let you know, haven't found any solution yet so far.
I tried to post on the Pumpkin forum but they don't approve my messages (tried to post twice, can't have them validated, don't know why, perhaps you can try?)

I was sending an email to the [email protected] with some questions to this device. I think they want to prevent rooting and customizing the device, that's the reason why they are answering with limited information.
Any new information about it? I'm using this device as it is and I'm satisfied so far. The stock functionalities are much better, compared to other stock systems from the car manufacturers. But I'm always interested in customizing and backing up apps and firmwares

No news. I have some crash from time to time on Waze and Spotify (the only two apps I use in fact...).
Other than that I'm satisfied, speed is ok, boot time is fine.

Do you know how to turn off the device by the way? Power button only turn off the screen, I would like to be able to fully turn off the device when I want (my antenna only goes down after 5-10min when the device turns off, that would be great to manually turn it off when parking).

Really, I had no crashes until now. But maybe that depends on the used apps. I'm using Navigon for navigation and mainly Bluetooth Audio, because my smartphone is the source of music.

I can just confirm that it is only possible to turn off the scrren with holding the power button. The device startup/standby/power off is controlled by the key power of the car. I'm not sure if there are other handling possibilities. Maybe you can use a seperate switch between the units key power wire ;)

I have a UMTS stick from Huawei an this is only usable if i disconnect/reconnect it after booting of the unit. While booting i guess the stick software expects interactions with the system. This doesn't exist, so it is in stanby until reconnecting or forcing by pc software. Any experiance with that?

I had the same problem with the device and a Huawei UMTS stick (connection was only working when plugged in during radio already powered on).
After reading some stuff in the internet i found a solution for that:
Root cause is that the stick sometimes is display as mass storage device and not directly as umts stick.
There are some instructions how to connect the device on a PC with a serial console and deactivate this functionality. (I've done this some time ago - i'don't know the internet side any more exactly)
After that it is connecting with the internet always directly even its already connected during power on.

If somebody found a solution to root this device i'd love to hear - I did not found any possibility till now.

Thank's for information ragarding the UMTS stick. I will try to figure out a description for doing it.
Since 2 days my unit forgets the paired Bluetooth devices. I have to pair my smartphone after every reboot of the unit. I'm wondering about that from one day of the other. I fear I have to perform a factory reset ant check again.
Especially for such cases I would like to have root access for good backup tools, like TitaniumBackup.

Hi, ragarding the missing Bluetooth paired devices I performed a factory reset with success. Now, it's working fine again. I installed just the important apps ant the startup time is much faster than the first time with more installed apps.
Big thanks to "eagle2162", the hint with the UMTS stick configuration was great. I were using Windows HyperTerminal and connected the stick to a pc. Then I were able to send a command "AT^U2DIAG=0" which configures the stick only for modem mode. Now the unit is connecting to the Internet after every boot automatically.
Additionally, I have the information about a hidden factory menu of this unit. Open the Bluetooth dialer and type in ##3188 then click "call" button.
Maybe there is a solution for "hayatesan", called "SleepMode". I guess you can disable the sleep mode after key power is gone... I didn't try it.

Hi,
I'm glad that the information helped you!
Yesterday i manged to root my device with KingoRoot! (Big thanks to chrisstavrou at official pumpkin support board)
I've just installed the android apk (root-apk.kingoapp(dot)com) and started it.
The Market helper is already installed and working: Now I'm able to install all the apps from play store!

Next steps will be removeing the kingoApps again and replacing them by SuperSu...

Nice information!!!
I will try to root with Kingo, too.
From where did you download the market helper?
I would appreciate if you and the other users of this device share them experience with some good functionalities, root procedures, modding, custom roms, firmware updates, etc.
I like to optimize and tune devices for the best as possible handling.
Do you have the original/stock firmware of this device? That would be a requirement to start with custom roms.
Do you think that it's possible to install a custom recovery (e.g. ROM Manager) to perform a nandroid backup?

1) I were able to root with Kingoroot, too
2) I installed SuperSU first, then installed the SuperSU binary after starting the App (Access via Kingoroot superuser confirmed)
3) I deinstalled the Kingoroot app and the Kingo Superuser App by using "Root app delete"
4) Checked root with "root checker" from appstore

Next step could be to try using ROM Manager for installing a custom recovery.
I requested the pumpkin forum for the stock firmware as backup. Let's see if they support that.

Hi,
I tried the same way but update the SuperSU binarys was not possible
1.)Installed SuperSU from play store.
2.)Starting it, requested update the binarys and selected normal mode:
=> there was no question from Kingoroot superuser to grant root access) and therefore the updating was not successfull.
So i did not manage to change to SuperSU. I tried the whole evening (even with manual binary instalation) and i had to give up... i'm woandering that it was so easy with your device

The market helper is from this board:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2146216

I've no sw image from this device. Pumpkin Support is not happy to provide the SW but in case of problems they normally provide it (this is my personal oppinion from reading the official board).
At the moment i'm not able to start into the recovery mode. everytime i tried the device does a factory reset. (holding down power button and press short rst button (several times if no reaction happens))

Hi eagle,

Regarding installing SuperSU binary I was deactivating the Kingo Superuser in Android app menu and tried to install the binary of SuperSU. I got no response while installing, so I reset the unit. Then I reactivated Kingo Superuser and tried again to install the SuperSU binary. Then I had to confirm the access for Super SU via Kingo Superuser and the installation was successful.

Hi guys,
Any new experience with this unit regarding root access, root features, custom ROM, etc.?
Actually, I have a problem with a third party app which needs bluetooth access. It is a German startup called "PACE" which has an OBD2 dongle via Bluetooth, which is reading out car parameters and uses that for Android systems and automated services depending on the car conditions.
Have someone experience with a 3rd party bluetooth application and solved it?
In the past for car diagnostics I used another OBD2 dongle and paired it before in the phone bluetooth menu before using it in another app (ScanMaster). That worked
