Hi guys, I just posted this in another section but I thing it might belong here. I'm JR and I'm new to the forum. I'm buying a used nook hd+ and would like to know what to look for and how I can make sure is a working unit. I'm purchasing the nook because I want to try to root it and use it as a gps on a really long trip we have during the winter. The lady said is about 3 month old and that is in good shape. Is there any way or procedure to check if everything works as it should? I have a droid razr maxx so I'm familiar with droid (this is my 2nd droid), but not an expert. I bought a new one with a 32gb and love it, but since i want to root it I don't want to use the new unit for that and I want to use it as a gps, again this is why im buying the used one.

Any help would be greatly appreciate it..

Thanks in advance.

My english is not good, however, if u wanna use nook hd+ as a GPS device, u will be disappointed since Nook HD+ has NO GPS module.

Thanks guys for the replies about the gps. My plan is to order a garmin glo bluetooth gps antenna so I can use it as my mapping device. Been reading about it and seen some videos and it seems to work very well. I'm also getting and offline map app like sygic or copilot. Probably copilot as it only cost $10 and it has good reviews.

This is the reason why I would like to root the nook. They can't operate on my current os version 2.1.1

Thanks for the repying guys.

I ended up buying the used, I was kind of reluctant to buy a used electronic. For some reason I only like to use new electronics but for $80 I decided to give it a try. The unit looks brand new and is working flawless. I wanted also a 32gb but again $80 I think was a heck of a deal. I just need now to buy a 32gb micro SD and learn how to do the rooting so I can unleash its potential. Have now idea yet how to do a root so I need to find a rooting for dummies kind of thread.
Btw, thanks for letting us know about us find. Thanks bro.

If by rooting you mean rooting stock so that it has root access, go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature. If by rooting you meant installing an alternate ROM to replace stock, go to the dummies guide for installing CM10.1.

Hi leapinlar, I'm a total noob on this. so now I'm a bit confuse, what I want to do is convert my stock 2.1.1 nook to a loaded android like my smart phone. When I was trying to install certain apps (like copilot, gopro app, weather bug, etc) I realized I couldn't do it because the nook is not compatible with some of the apps. Like i said I want to use the nook as a gps and I can't install offline maps because the tablet is not compatible. My nook has 16gb and am planning on getting a 32gb micro sd for the offline maps, music and other misc stuff.

My background so u can recommend me what route should i go, I'm not a geek, I know how to use my computers as a regular pc user, install stuff, and do other basic stuff. Never done any type of programming, pretty good with internet searches.

I thought I new what I wanted but with ur post I just realized I don't know what to do so in other words I did not understand ur post. I 'm not interested in any of the B&N stuff so I guess I can get reed of everything related to them.

Sorry for the noob question but I need guidance.

Thanks in advance for ur help and thanks for posting here.

My thread is for rooting stock (in other words giving root access to stock). What you want is to replace the stock operating system with a custom ROM like CM10.1 (that is not rooting, but CM10.1 does come rooted). So you need to follow the dummies guide for installing CM10.1.

But the HD/HD+ does not have a GPS installed, so if you want to use GPS you have to use a Bluetooth unit.

Question, I know I need an sd card for the CyanogenMod, will this sd card needs to be installed all the time for CyanogenMod to work?
The reason I ask is because I need a lot of space for offline mapping, music and other things. If it has to be install all the time with CyanogenMod , will I have enough space with a 32gb sd?
Can I go with a bigger sd, like a 64gb?
What class work better for this application (4,10) or witch one?

Sorry for so many questions.

Thanks in advance.
