Boot recovery, wipe cache and data. Same as every other thread asking this question in the last 13 months. Please try to search before posting

If I boot recovery, wipe cache and data - Will I have to re-install the factory image??
You're seriously asking this question? Wow...OK, I'll answer it but come on, it's a little bit retarded

No, you won't have to re-flash the image as resetting the unit doesn't wipe the system, just data

People like you give this forum a bad name. Please dont reply if you cant help being rude.
The forum gets it's bad name from the stupid questions asked over and over (and over) again each time a new update comes out, not from frustration boiling over. I was being rude so next time the person will think twice about posting and think to use the search function first...

And, for the record, I said the question was retarded, not the person asking it ;) Perhaps don't take everything in life so seriously

I guess it depends what the remit of the forum is. I was of the opinion noobs were welcome. Often the search either takes or frankly isn't that effective.

Thankfully I'm thick-skinned, but I wonder how many people would now be afraid to post in fear of their question being called "retarded". Seems like something you should keep for the playground to me.

Actually, this forum was never originally designed for n00bs - quite the opposite! The side-affect of Android taking off means more have come here for information but very few are willing to learn/read/search and just want instant answer. This isn't the way forward and, as a n00b, you should come and read as much as possible first and only when truly stuck do you ask for help. Even rule number 1 of this very forum is to search:

1. Search before posting.

Use one of our search functions before posting or creating a new thread. Whether you have a question or just something new to share, it's very likely that someone has already asked that question or shared that news.
This is my take on what I've read posted from more senior members than myself and is the view I share :)

This.

We're here for development purposes. A side effect of ROM development unfortunately is noobs. Thats why we spent a lot of time making sticky threads in the hope that you can all draw from our knowledge and have enough info to not ask these sorts of questions.

That said, please see the "guides and info threads" link in my signature. You will learn a lot there and it would have prevented asking the question about having to reflash the image (which is unfortunately a really basic question)

I have done this through the OS, stock recovery, and through TWRP.. still showing 12.55GB as total space on a 32GB N5, any other ideas? Just getting restless on the wipes.

Also, in case it's needed, I was getting the system image error, flashed each command separately, and did the fastboot flash cache/userdata steps as well when I first flashed the system.img

I fixed my issue... reflashed all the files, and then before booting up fully, I booted into recovery and cleared cache and userdata, then ran everything properly.

Finally showing the proper size and even rooted and TWRP installed, no issues so far. Good luck!

I've been trying to do the same for hours, followed method 2 : [TUTORIAL] How to flash a factory image

up to : "★When a small dead Android appears, press Power Button + Volume UP."

But when I press power+volume up nothing happens

Any idea ? Also is there a reason why fastboot boot recovery twrp.img does not work ?

you need to put it into cmd as "Fastboot boot recovery recovery.img" you're basically telling it to flash the recovery and it not knowing what is the recovery is why it's not working. Also, for the PWR Button + UP just keep pressing it, what I do is hold the power button and then press up and down till something happens. Give it a shot :)

Thanks playing with the button until something happens did the trick. Also for future reference formatting data after that can be fairly long
You weren't kidding about the length. Clearing cache took about 2 min. I am formatting my data now and I think it been working at it for 7 min now.

This form have had a lot of new members recently since Android has become more mainstream which means we are getting a lot more questions that have been answered multiple times. Most of the new people that come here are just looking for answers and don't spend the time to search. The best thing we can do as senior members is either tell them the answer they are looking for and showing them how to search or search for them and show them how you found the answer. That might help them in the future to not ask simple questions that have been answered before. There's no reason to be rude we were all noobs at one point. You gotta remember also a lot of the new members are younger kids and we all know how impatient younger kids are. So did give xda a good name the best thing we can do is help them out but also then find what they are looking for themselves by showing them how search works. It might take more time on our end but not much more time then berating them for not searching.

In most cases it only takes 5 or 10 seconds to answer the question anyway so you might as well just answer the question and tell them to search next time which will help them find their answer quicker. No need to be condescending.
