Hi, I Just wanted to know if anyone is using the official cyanogen mod on the 816 for virgin mobile and could tell me if everything works. Im looking to pick up this phone from virgin mobile since its 20% off, but my last phone I picked up was a virgin mobile supreme (ZTE vital) and it did not have any development or really any community involvement so there were no custom roms. Im partially new to flashing roms so I sorta know what im doing, but could anyone give me some steps to unlock the bootloader , flash twrp or CWM, and get the right variant of cyanogen mod. I see that cyanogen's wiki has some steps, would these be the best to follow? http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_a5 Thanks in advance.

To unlock bootloader and root go HERE.

There's only one version of CM11, it works on all variants including the VM one.

Next time just google it, or go through the forums a little, there here for a reason ;)
Thanks, I went through the forms quite a bit, I don't know why I didn't see that the one version of CM11 worked for all.

I actually pasted through that thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2775801 )earlier, and saw that it was posted 7th June 2014, 04:27 PM, the CWM 6.0.4.7 version, I'm assuming, is fine for CM11, but I remember having a problem from going to CM10 to CM11 on my old LG optimums G. Would I have the same problem if I didn't update CWM and tried going to Cm12 without updating CWM?

Also, is http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-816/general/rom-backup-t2862959 a good backup or should I make my own?

And one last thing, when it says to "Fully wipe your device" what exactly should I wipe before installing the Rom.

Thanks again.

Make your own backup! The one from that thread has given me data issues. We have a RUU anyways.

And when installing a ROM, do a factory reset, wipe /system, wipe cache and dalvik cache, then flash.

You need a special CWM for CM12, for any other ROM the CWM from the root guide is fine.

Thanks again! And one last question, for step 4 here, http://puu.sh/dkbeA/89f9d4c995.png is this required if im going to flash CM11 right after I install the custom recovery.?

Does anybody have s-off for the Virgin Mobile variant? I too want to buy this but I've learned not to buy HTC unless s-off is attainable.

Sent from my cdma 4.4.2 Virgin Mobile HTC Desire 601 zara_cl

There is not S-off for this device. You can however unlock the Boot loader through HTCs website., this allows for custom recoveries and custom roms like cm 11/12. S-off would make bricking the phone alot easier and is really not necessary since we can unlock the boot loader.
