This may seem like a daft question, so apologies in advance. I'm planning to buy a Pixel XL and have noticed that the EE version is much cheaper, but has a locked bootloader. If I were to pay to get the phone SIM unlocked (either via EE or a third party), would this also allow for the bootloader to be unlocked or would I be SOL on that front?
no way to unlock the bootloader, if system is higher than 7.1

Sent from my sailfish using XDA Labs

you answered my question, what a waste of $800 I bought this for my wife and it is now on the March security update and Build NOF27B. We represent a small community of the smart phone community that pays outrageous fees and bills for a service, and how do we hurt them by making our phones suitable to our needs aka 10 times better than our provider...they still rob us of money..I dont get this at all. So can I at least Root?? Im gonna but her a OP3 I guess

Google pixel xl, Android version 7.1.1 (up to date)
Ok, I am at my ends at this point. Everywhere else I search people seem clueless. The problem has been occuring since I have purchased the phone. The problem:
If you plug in your wired headphones and play music everything is fine. It isn't until someone calls you (it doesn't matter what the sound profile is) that the music will fade out like it should, but after you take the call or ignore it the audio will continue to fade as if a call is incoming or I'm receiving notifications, but that's not the case. It's just fading like it glitched out. The only way to stop the fading is to reboot the entire phone, but that's a temporary solution to a deeply rooted issue. The problem is reoccurring with the same conditions. I've only noticed it doing this with the headphone jack being used. (Just had it do it with Bluetooth) have tried downloading soundabout and disabling the "ok Google" but none of that seemed to work like it did for other people. Thank you for any input, this is driving me nuts because I love this phone

Is anyone else on the Android O preview getting bad battery life? To be fair, I did NOT wipe my phone, I just installed the update without -w on the main update zip and did the bootloader and radio manually.

I'm seeing the battery drop as much as 10% an hour with forcedoze turned on and the phone untouched, screen off, sitting on the desk next to me.

The battery usage just shows Google Play Services as the big sucker followed by Android OS with about 1/2 the suckage.

Wondering if I should try wiping, but I need to find a way to restore AndroidID so I can keep using my Play Music.

Yes you should have wiped. I'm surprised it even booted that way. As for play music you should have the 3 months active tied to your Google account not your phone once it's been activated.

I've had Play Music All Access since the beta. But it attached by Android ID so if I wipe and don't restore I have to burn 1 of 4 device removals your allowed per year.

After having my XL since release, I took the plunge finally and unlocked the bootloader, rooted, SU, and flashed PN all so I could accomplish a few goals. I got AdAway installed, but im looking for a particular audio mod, that only deals with interface and I hope someone can point me in the right direction. I hate how the Pixel will not allow me to set me ringtone volume and notification volume independently. Is there a mod I can utilize that will allow that?

Hello there's an option in sound on Pure Nexus tout link ring and notification volume.

"Link ring and notification volume"

I tried wiping everything, and the battery life at best is no better than 7.1.2. I don't understand. I see people posting other places claiming they are getting hours more SOT and 3-5 days of standby. The core system processes appear to be eating most of the juice.

I have read and read and I'm just dumb and scared to try anything. I'm tired of seeing this notification about upgrading to 7.1.2.

Yes I seen all kinds of threads about it but nothing that gives me a true step by step of updating to it.

How exactly do I need to do it.

I have an XL, rooted, unlocked and on Verizon.

I must also say, I've never seen such a hassle in upgrading or installing ROMs as I have with this phone.
I guess they are trying to make it so difficult for the few of us that aren't so tech savvy so we just stick to a locked up phone and do what THEY desire.
Please help me only if you have a step by step method for me cause I won't understand all the jargon ya throw at me.

Thank you:)

So I have tried everything when it comes to flashing ViPER4ANDROID for Nougat on my stock Rom Pixel XL. I cannot get the APK to install the driver. I DO NOT have TWRP INSTALLED OR FLASHED. I use Root terminal on my Linux computer to fastboot boot TWRP.img every time I need TWRP. I am using guitarded heros newest ViPER4ANDROID / Nougat APK fix and still will not install the Driver within the app. I am rooted and unlocked all stock.

Edit: I did change audio_effects.conf to .Conf.bak

Edit: I want to stick with running VIPER4ANDROID with SELinux in enforcing.

I just bought a used Pixel XL that was supposedly bought directly from Google originally (not from a carrier). However, it has Android 7.1.2 build number NHG47K installed on it, which is a Verizon specific version. My concern is whether or not this really is a Google Play Store version of the XL and, if so, will this Verizon update be a problem for me? Will this cause problems with unlocking the bootloader or acquiring root privileges? Can I install the non-Verizon version (N2G47E) without causing problems? The original owner may have been a Verizon customer but I am not.

Thanks in advance.

I have a Google version on VZ and the VZ update was offered to me. So it is certainly possible it is a Google phone. Hit the Developer options, if you can slide the oem unlock button you are fine. That won't unlock it. You still need to do the fastboot command.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I can enable OEM unlocking in developer options.
