There's no way to ungray the OEM unlocking box on a Google phone that has a Google build 7.1.2?

I suggest trying again, and explain that you can't unlock the bootloader

well it's not the operation system
when the phone connects to internet the first time WiFi/cellular, there is some kind of communication with Google, to see is the device is eligible for unlocking
how this is determined is unknown

you could try a factory reset

stupid question, but is there a proper way to sync my Google profile picture on the notification shade so I don't get the generic headshot? it used to pop up once you told the g+ app to keep contacts up to date, but that option seems to be gone from the app now. I downloaded an older version from apkmirror and have it working, but was wondering if there was an easier way I was missing?

Have a few questions about a Play Store/US Unlocked Pixel.

1. If I get a US Unlocked Pixel on 7.1.2, is there any way to tether with an Verizon Grandfathered UDP?

2. I have been out of the root/rom loop for several years (Nexus 5). Is there any real benefit to rooting the Pixel?

Hello,

I'll only answer your second question, since I'm in EU...

Benefits or Root?

For me, ability to modify system files: theme ready gapps = black theme/UI...

Adaway, titanium backup.

The benefits are still here for me, until the above becomes natively available.

Cheers...

Not really into modifying theme any more. I spent way too much time tweaking the system back in the younger days of android.

However you do bring up a good point on Adaway. I am unfamiliar with Adaway but I am assuming it is similar to Adblock?

Hello,

Well... You know with substratum and theme ready gapps, you only need to push a few apps in /system/apps and /system/priv-apps and you are done.

Adaway is like Adblock. Works system less now as well if you want still want to install OTA.

Is it possible to cast from the pixel through normal Miracast or dlna without chromecast? I've searched the forums and Google but I still can't find an answer. The few posts I've found make it seem like modifying buildprop doesn't work well or at all. Thought it would be baked into a rom or a mod by now.

pixel model

Hey guys im planning to buy a pixel xl device off eBay because i can find good deals. But what im afraid of is that i'll buy verzion one accidentally. As far as i know G-2PW2100 are U.S. Version: Verizon Wireless / Project Fi / Google Store / BestBuy. G-2PW2200 is the international. My question is permanently bootloader locked models are Verizon and BestBuy ? or the every G-2PW2100 model phones are bootloader locked permanently? i know that we can unlock bootloader on verzion if the OS is on 7.0 but i don't want to take that risk when im buying phone off eBay. Appreciate if you can help me :):):)

Hello,

Apparently, there is an USA specific one (G-2PW2100) and a Global one/international (G-2PW2200).

Check this: https://www.techwalls.com/google-pixel-pixel-xl-model-number-differences/

Just be careful and buy an unlocked G-2PW2100. Not a Verizon... :good:

Good luck...
