If anyone knows the direct answer for this question it is Runningnak3d. Check out the Laf exploit thread.

Heya! I'm pretty new with rooting newer phones, it was much simpler back then. Which guide should I follow if my phone is software H91820g? I do see a few guides around here for different versions but what has me worried is the 20g. What should i follow? I'm afraid to brick it if i follow the wrong guide. Does the bootloader guide for h918 work for all versions of h918?

Your only option is the lafexploit

So i can downgrade to h91810p from h91820g using step 1 of this guide? https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/step-step-guide-lg-v20-h918-unlocking-t3808258

no bricks will happen?
You should be good to go if you follow the instructions exactly. I didnt use that thread though. I rooted when Runningnak3d discovered the lafsploit and, shared the process with us. He later made the process even easier for us and, updated the instructions, Kish followed suit.No one can guarantee that no bricks will happen. Even the most knowledgeable people brick sometimes.

Okay so i noticed recovery is still there, but holding up vol+ plugging in usb brings me to download still instead of twrp. How do I get it back to have TWRP/recovery show up when i use that combination again?

Also with kernal audit, where the heck is screen settings. I don't see it.

Download the kernel auditor reborn. Once you do you can uninstall the kernel auditor you have right now.

I've been thinking about buying a used v20 as a rootable phone but it appears like not all the versions of the v20 are made equal. Which ones are easier to get the bootloader unlocked on? I'm planning on using it on a Verison MVNO but I'm 95% sure that any verizon branded phone is a no-go on that front. I've also had bad experiences with the LG developers unlock site with the g5, but I think a lot of that had to do with not all the phones that should have been eligible actually being eligible.... but if one of the versions can be unlocked without all that rigamarole that would be better. I suppose all else fails I can just buy one pre-rooted off of Ebay and reflash the thing for security reasons but I'd prefer to avoid that.

H990DS is what I have, and it has the Dirtysanta bootloader unlock exploit.
I'd recommend it (or the H990 if you don't want dual SIM) from personal experience. If you have a look around at the how to root guides for all the different variants, you can start to gather which are the easiest to work with.

I want to buy a used LG V20 for my parent. I found a good deal on VS995 but it says it is locked to Verizon. My understanding is Verizon V20 are not locked. Should I take chance to find out? Or are there locked VS995 which cannot be used on GSM carriers?

If you plan to put a few bells and, whistles on the phone. The Tmobile variant or, the Att variant are excellent options.

I really hope someone can help me with this situation I'm in.
I have H990TR (Single-Sim Variant), so to root it I used H99010b_00_OPEN_IL_OP_1103.kdz

I followed all steps of dirty santa for H990, while doing it I got stuck at the part where you are greeted with
"Your device is corrupt, enter password to unlock".
So I formatted data, no solution.
Wiped everything (except USB-OTG and external SD), no solution.
Flashed Lineage OS 15.1 and it worked. Then moved to Lineage OS 16.0 and it still works.

Problem is that I want to move to SuperRom, unfortunately whatever I do I keep getting greeted with "Your device is corrupt. do a factory reset" screen.
Is there anyone who has ANY idea how can I fix it?

I tried:
- Installing SuperRom with many variations (no mods/with mods/flash kernel&boot later etc.)
- Downgrading to stock (H99010c_00_OPEN_IL_OP_1219.kdz) with KDZ Writer, still getting do a factory reset.
- Downgrading to stock and then flashing kernel or rom.

Nothing works, except Lineage OS. Help please?

What version of twrp are you using? Also you should search and read in the super rom thread, I think there were reports of issues with that rom on the 990. Also the rom itself is no longer being developed or supported

I'm using Unofficial TWRP 3.3.0-0
I know H990 is the blacksheep of V20, always causing some problem; but from the searches I know it is working.
Problem is not only about the superrom, that is why I'm asking this here.

Whether it is rooting a stock, installing superrom or anything using stock rom as basis, it doesn't work.
It either gives me a LG logo boot loop or encryption unsuccessful, reset phone.

It may be an issue with the most recent twrp builds I've seen some reports of issues. Maybe be try an older twrp build

I just bought VS995 model and honestly I'm afraid to do unlocking bootloader. I need rooted device or at least I can use modded stock ROM with root access. Is there any other way to do flashing ROM without dirtysanta? I know unlocking bootloader then flash TWRP is basic need for it. But I want to know if there is other way to do it.

Nope, you need to unlock the bootloader in order to have twrp, and the ability to flash roms and root
