I recently bought a vs995 on ebay. The seller said it was "unlocked". But upon inserting my SIM-Card the phone said "The SIM-Card is not from verizon wireless".
Confusingly I can initiate and recieve calls, but mobile data does not work.

Some infos:
The device's box was still sealed, so it is probably factory new
carrier: t-mobile in germany, so the frequency-band should not be a problem (checked on frequencycheck.com / carrier-compatibility/wwoGio/lg-vs995-v20-xlte/t-mobile-germany)

I tried every network mode (LTE/CDMA , LTE/GSM/UMTS, ...), still no luck


My guess is, that it is just a problem with the stock andoid. This wouldn't be a problem for me, since I want to run lineage on it anyways. But when I unlock the bootloader I cannot get a refund.

So my question is: What could possibly cause those problems and are they related to a SIM-Lock?

Sounds like the phone is an H918 check the about phone section to verify, if that is the case then you need to get tmobile to unlock or pay to have it unlocked thru an unlocking service. Also if it's an H918 be advised do not flash firmware for any other variant as you will wind up with a hard brick

I have a factory LG V20 H918 that's still on Android Version Nougat 7.0

I want to put LineageOS on it.
My device is rooted with recowvery and I have TWRP on it as well.

What are the steps of putting LineageOS 17 on it?

Do I have to upgrade my Android version first? Kernel?
What are the steps, any help would be appreciated, I've been stuck for a week now.

I am looking to buy a V20 on ebay and root it. I am in USA, can anyone tell me which variant works the best for rooting and if there is anything I should also watch out for, such as software updates or anything like that?

the US variants (ex. US996) are better. they were sold straight from LG and you can unlock the bootloader via LG's website. it's recommended to flash a ROM like lineage since anything the V20 is running out of the box these days has a ton of security holes as it hasn't been patched since like 2018

I have a H910 upgraded to Oreo. The software version is H91020h. When the phone boots it shows an unlocked icon.

I want to install LineageOS 17.1 on it and am trying to follow the official instructions. I am not sure if my bootloader is unlocked.

By the way, the instructions point to this post on this site to unlock the bootloader. When I try to download the file, Windows Defender refuses, reporting "Trojan:Win32/Sehyioa.A!cl" in it!

I have also tried the method in this post, but I'm stuck on the link being down for DirtySanta root package.

Any ideas about what to do next?
