I just got my Verizon V20 with the June security update.

I don't want to be that guy, but my searches keeps leading me to bootloader/root threads.

I just want to root so I can install adaway.

What's the easiest way to just root? Or do I have to unlock the bootloader?

Hello everyone, I need help please, I finally got my T-Mo LG V20 and rooted it, but the only thing I need is a kernel for this particular phone, I'm not looking for performance as I don't play any games, it is just to get Viper4android to work, sound is my number one priority, I'm running pure stock 918J10 so I basically need a kernel that works with my stock rom. Thanks in advance and have a great day.

You will have to unlock the bootloader before you do anything else.

Ya i know i need it to mount system to rw. I edited the build.prop by moving it to my sd card.just cant overwrite it in system.

just look a couple of posts above i shared a link with everything you need to downgrade and root the v20 and it took me two days to properly get dirty cow working since i messed up in a couple of steps myself but now i'm rooted running Resurrection remix. If that post doesn't help there is always youtube. Good luck rooting your v20

Is it a dead project or is there still hope for root access, I'm decent and testing methods and things as long as there is a recovery solution similar to Odin or something which appears that there isn't even that at all so I hope I'm not stuck with no root because I will highly consider returning this device without root access.

I would consider returning it then. Anyone past December is screwed. There was some hope in the G5 section with the uppercut method, but I haven't got a response out of the OP to see if it is still a WIP. Check there

Depends on which kdz you are on 10k 10n 10p as so on.....

Stock ROMs . One with no root added, one with magisk as root and one with super su as root. The kernels in these roms at one point had static upon booting up . These have updated kernels it looks like .

LG V20 H918 stuck in boot loop with TWRP

I have an LG V20 H918 (T-Mobile) with unlocked bootloader, rooted, running a custom ROM called Weta. I did a T-Mobile update and restarted and it booted into TWRP 3.0.2-0. Every reboot just goes back to TWRP and will not load Android. I wiped data and installed a new custom ROM called NATF MegaROM and rebooted and it still only boots into TWRP. Please help.

One thing I vaguely remember reading when I first unlocked my bootloader and rooted said something about having to install the custom rom before rebooting just after unlocking with ADB otherwise it will encrypt the file system and lock the boot loader again, I think I remember this happening on my first attempt and I had to start the process over with ADB and it worked the second time. I have not tried using ADB for my current problem. I am not sure if this recent update somehow relocked my bootloader or encrypted my file system or not.

My goal is to get any custom rom working with root (was previously rooted). I am able to copy custom rom files to my SD card via a computer. So far installing them still does not get me past TWRP into Android.

The pin issue could be a series of things. If you're using a fingerprint and it asks every time, perhaps a third party launcher could be the cause. If anything other than pressing the power button or double tapping *specifically the status bar* (with the exception of the stock launcher) turns of the screen, fingerprint is disabled. Or perhaps if you mean you don't use a fingerprint and you don't want it to lock up every time your screen turns off, look at the bottom of the Lock Screen Settings and uncheck "Power key instantly locks" and increase the "Lock timer" setting.

Hello XDA community I have been out of touch with anything mobile tech wise for many years now and need some assistance please. I have had my LG V20(H990DS)for a while now and I'd like to know how to find out what region it comes from?
I have tried searching for this info to no avail, I feel like an IDIOT considering my past with XDA and I really would like to know if I can flash an AU stock ROM(H990)over whatever SEA(H990)ROM that came with the phone. Thanks in advance.
