Can you please give the exact error message you receive? Like a screenshot or the message itself.
Here you go, I currently don't know what to do, I just tried going back (nandroid backup) and I successfully booted but I wiped everything again and flashed 5.1.4.
I want to make this Pie, thank you SO MUCH once again.

(I couldn't screenshot for some reason)

The error is: your zip file is corrupt. This means either you extracted the compatibility.zip without the right tool(total commander or Mixplorer, mentioned within installation instructions), wrong method(you did extract the rom file delete the compatibility.zip but you need to open the rom zip and just delete the compatibility.zip) or your rom zip is simply damaged by corrupt download or copy.

No, I checked MD5, download was good, but I erased it with Total Commander on USB OTG (I'm flashing all this from OTG).
So, what do you recommend? For some reason it says I don't have OS installed even though I just flashed 5.1.4. so the only option is basically restoring the backup and removing the compatibility.zip FROM internal storage and re-doing everything?

If you have a pc extract the compatibility.zip with 7zip.

Otherwise maybe it's corrupted cause of extraction from otg. I never had issues with mixplorer removing compatibility.zip from internal storage rom zip.

Did you FORMAT internal storage after flashing 5.1.4? Did you flash no verity patch to stay decrypted(if you wish to) after 5.1.4 and before magisk and first boot?

It's also necessary to give the exact steps(what you wiped, what you flashed, file names of every file) cause we cannot see what you're doing ;)

No, I just flashed Magisk Unistaller , wiped data, system and cache and dalvik cache and flashed OOS 5.1.4 then tried flashing Pie - that's all I did.
I did not flash Magisk and I want to stay encrypted.

Thank you once again for saving me, this is the first time I'm encountering with this issue, what to do?

At first you did not read the flashing instructions I linked you.
It's mandatory to follow them otherwise you'll fail like now.

If you want root, you need magisk and also you need to format internal storage which will wipe everything. No verity patch is not needed in your case if you want to stay encrypted, that's correct, but needs a format of internal storage cause the completely new 5.1.4 encrypt your storage on startup, but cannot read it properly.

You're coming from a modified old rom which makes things complicated if you did not start from scratch and even troubleshooting is a pain as you can see :silly:

Okay, now I wiped everything including internal storage and tried flashing 5.1.4. again and I'm getting :
"Updater process ended with signal : 7"
Error installing "zipfilename.zip"

Once again, I'm terribly sorry for being pain in the ass.

What is this? The zip name does not contain a rom file or am I wrong? Error 7 is corrupt file. What you're flashing?

No, sorry I just shortened it up , after making a full wipe including internal storage I tried flashing "OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_037_all_1807181258_7b4b6.zip" and it's giving me that error.

Ah OK :)

You can try the following if you're 100% sure you don't have corruption on any zip file and formatted internal storage(not wipe).:

You can flash this recovery https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UlTftbe6wooAs4Fp0cjwXlOKmfQHgdfL/view?usp=drivesdk and try again(you can flash it with your current one by install > image) but you need to remove compatibilit.zip from Pie zip file later.
But see if you're sucessfully get 5.1.4 working.

Good luck!

Okay, I've successfully made it to 5.1.4 and now I need to re-do everything since I lost TWRP and magisk, thanks for your help.

Hi,

If you want to unlock bootloader and root start here, it's quite easy

https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...k-bootloader-flash-twrp-t3624877/post72748896

Updating the stock rom oxygenOS is also quite easy when rooted

https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...xygenos-4-5-2-7-1-1-ota-t3627003/post72799040

But the OxygenOS forces the internal storage to be encrypted which you need to keep in mind. If you don't want that, both threads gives you the explanation what to do.
Hey! I've been reading the posts you recommended me and i have some questions.

  1. About root, is there any advantage with removing encryption on my device? I now the files will be safer (form my understanding) but i'm just wondering from the point of view of someone who just wants to keep his stock OxygenOS and receive the latest updates.
  2. The second link you sent me is for the Pie rom for my phone, but i already update it OTA to OxygenOS 9.0.4. Is this downloadable rom the same one i already have installed, or is it a different one?
  3. At the bottom of that post it read i should never flash partial OTA updates, only full updates (Above 1GB) if i'm rooted. Will I be missing anything important from not installing those partial OTA updates?
  4. If a non-partial OTA update becomes available, can i just download it from my phone via the updater in setting, and install it? Or should i use a custom recovery to flash that official OTA update?

Thanks!!

- it's slightly faster without encryption and you'll have external access always in case of issues. It's a decision you should take. The updating process for decrypted and rooted devices is in the 2nd link. Normal otas with incremental downloads are not possible with root.

- it's the same latest one, just the full rom not incremental ota

- no, you'll not loose anything by flashing the whole rom instead of ota

- you can download it from the phones system updater, but if you have root, it will be detected and you're forced to download the full rom. As explained before and as you read: no more partial otas, but there's NO downside besides the special flashing instructions, some more time consuming procedure and ~1.8GB to download each time

I have tried installing the following roms on my OP5
HavocOS
CarbonROM
Pixel Experience
The installation goes on fine but on booting the file transfer option does not work.
All other options work.
The file transfer option only works while in recovery mode.
Any help would be appreciated

I was charging my phone few days back, and after about 2 hours I checked into my phone and it was stuck showing my background with no applications etc. It did not respond to any button presses except holding down the power button.
After trying to turn my phone back on it got stuck at the OnePlus spinning logo. I shut down the phone after about 30 minutes of spinning.
I was able to access fast boot (bootloader) menu and recovery menu, and even tried clearing my phones cache and system data in the recovery menu but this didn't help.
I read that I might've 'bricked' my phone and I tried some guides on the internet on how to fix it, but I was unable get my phone recognized by my computer so that didn't work out either.

If I have my computer plugged to my PC it does indeed charge, but my device manager doesn't show any new devices, nor do I get any pop ups for new device detected. This is keeping me from even trying to unbrick my phone.

thanks for all the help in advance!

Does it still boot into recovery using the button presses?

Can you try doing a factory reset?

Yes, it boots into both recovery and fastboot mode. I have tried resetting system settings and wiping cache, but I haven't pressed the "Erase everything" button.

I even got help from OnePlus support and they tried to help me remotely with no success even getting my computer to recognize the phone. They told me to go to this repair shop nearby and try to get it fixed.

Have you tried to get it recognized by adb while the phone is in recovery mode? If that works, you can at least grab the data from internal storage before wiping it.
