Q&A for [ROM] [NIGHTLY] [KitKat] [4.4] CyanogenMod 11.0 nightlies

WatchESPN stutter?

Do other people see video stutter on live video using the WatchESPN app?

I'm running a recent CM11 build and connected to a wired network. All other streaming apps (Comcast, BTN2Go, Netflix, Hulu, ...) play flawlessly, but WatchESPN shows a regular pattern of video pauses approximately 2 seconds apart.

I also tried to force 720p using the instructions at the beginning of this thread. Oddly, neither my monitor nor system panel reported 720p, both still reported 1080 after a reboot. I was able to force 720p from a terminal using the 'wm size' command, but the WatchESPN stutter remained.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hey everyone,

First of all - thanks to everyone involved in getting Cyanogenmod on the Ouya. Such a better experience than the stock OS.

Quick question for anyone who may have come across an answer - I've been looking for a while now.....

I've tried installing Bell TV (similar to other live TV streaming apps on mobile devices), but when I try and stream, it won't allow it because an external display is connected. Is there any way to spoof the Ouya running Cyanogenmod to believe there is no external display?

Thanks for the suggestion, pbanj. I've got an exam tomorrow and I've already spent way too much time trying to figure this out so I'll give it a try sometime in the next few days and let you know how it goes haha

I've also been trying to mess around with different adb broadcasts but with no luck so far...

CM11 which version to start?

Hi,

I have thinking of installing cm11 but i am a real novice when it comes to android. I have already rooted the device and use play store. What i wanted to know is there a preferred stable version to use or do i just select the latest nightly to try.

Also if anything does go wrong or i decide to want to go back to stock os is there a process for this? Where do i get a copy of the stock os to flash?

Sorry for the basic questions!

One method that works on rk3066/3188 devices is changing the content of the file stored at /sys/devices/virtual/switch/hdmi/state from '1' to '0'. I've been unable to change it on the Ouya. Apparently something in the kernel governs whether this file can be changed. I have no idea how to fix it though.

Thanks for the suggestion, feathers. I was able to change the file and save it. However, the app still detected an external display. Then I restarted the Ouya to see what would happen - the "state" file just reverted back to 1. I think you're right, something in the kernel must change it back - not sure what to do about it!

So I went through Xposed Framework, couldn't find any modules that would fix the problem though. There's a couple of app-specific modules for apps such as 4oTV, but I can't find anything that indicates it may work system-wide.

Has anyone been able to Mirror their screen from Ouya to a chromecast ?
Wish I could help you with this, but I don't currently have a Chromecast. Thinking of getting one though, so if I do I'll try it out!

Hey Paul,

Not sure if you've tried to install CM already, but here are my thoughts:

Since CM11 on the Ouya is an unofficial release, and is also relatively new, I don't believe there is a stable release. I just used one of the nightlies to install though, and it went just fine.

As for reverting to stock, I'm not exactly sure about the details to be honest. Haven't tried it! I imagine reverting the OS to stock would not be very hard, you'd just have to reflash from recovery. Not sure about the bootloader, though.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply I did load CM11 but had to overcome an issue updating CWM Recovery which had been corrupted by an OUYA update. However all loaded fine and I have to say I much prefer CM11.

Just one issue to resolve now and that is I have no boot menu appearing even though I flashed it several times with no errors. I suspect it is something similar to what was stopping me originally loading CWM. It's a bit of a pain as I have no idea how to solve the issue. I think I will try to ADB Sideload it to see if I can see specific errors . I posted a question in the Help forum and hopefully someone will be able to offer some advice.

Thanks again.

Mouse stops working during video playback

Hi, I finally got CM11 running on my Ouya but I have a problem with video playback.
Playback works fine but the mouse pointer stops working as soon as the video starts playing (I'm using a USB Logitech k400). So, I can't change the play position, video settings, etc. Physical buttons still work, like back/esc, space/pause, home, etc.
Tested this problem with the following apps:
Netflix
Twitch
Crunchyroll
Chrome (when playing a full screen video)

Somehow the Youtube app doesn't have this problem (XBMC either).
Am I missing a setting or is this a problem with CM?

Thanks for the help.

setprop persist.tegra.hdmi.resolution 720p

What does
setprop persist.tegra.hdmi.resolution 720p
*really* do?

I have the property set, but my monitor and various 'system info' type apps still report 1080. I edited the entry in build.props as well just to test, and still 1080. My monitor definitely supports both 1080 and 720 resolutions. I've tried various builds from early October, through current.

If I open a terminal and use 'wm size' it reports back physical size 1080. I can issue a 'wm size 720p' and apps will start reporting 720p, but 'wm size' then reports physical size 1080 and override size of 720.

I've triple checked my spelling and I am setting the correct persist property. I know things are working because I can alter overscan using setprop and the changes are as expected.

If the persist.tegra.hdmi.resolution property is set to 720p does the internal framebuffer actually get reduced in size, or are graphics still rendered at 1080 internally, then scaled to a 720p output?

Can someone with a working 720p configuration tell me what is reported by 'wm size' in a terminal?

TIA
