Headset Mic

My wife has an m4 and would rather use an AOSP-based ROM than Sense. However, we've tried a couple different ones, and her headset mic doesn't seem to work on any non-Sense ROMs. Has anyone tried using a wired heaset with Slim on the m4? Does it work correctly?
