What VPN app are you using?
How did you configure it, fresh or from data restore?
When did this app last work for you?
i have test hotspot shield vpn and zenmate vpn
it doesn't need any configure just tab on connect
the last time i used it before upgrade to lollipop
i test it on kitkat and was worked perfectly .

I haven't tried those VPN apps, the only VPN app I have used is OpenVPN for Android, which works great on this ROM.

Are you using the latest version of either VPN?
Can you better describe what happens when you are using them?
I assume the apps ask for root permission, have you allowed this?
Can you get a log from before you start the app, through to attempted connections to see what is happening?

I don't know what you mean. Data is not encrypted by default.
thanks by answer, i had encryted the data whit the cm10.1 then i switch to cm12 with full wipe butmy phone still encrypted. :( now i dont know how to revert this situation, im thinking to change my recovery but im afraid to make more "damage"

any help will be great.
Thanks again and again Mustaavalkosta.

As far as I know if you properly format data partition anything related to encryption there will be gone and default state is restored on new ROM flash. Check that you are using the newest TWRP.

ok, i updated twrp to 2.8.6.1. , did a full wipe.. and still have to insert my password to enter in twrp to decrypt data, same in cm12., then im tried to do a factory reset but with no success..

any idea?

ps: i know its not a CM12 problem related anda just want to say thanks again to Mustaavalkosta!

Format data partition manually instead of performing factory reset. Factory reset is kind of special case, for example, in emulated sdcard devices since it doesn't format emulated sdcard that resides in data partition.

yehh,, thats works! thank you again Musta..

im just use fastboot comands, like this,
C:\adb>fastboot erase system -w
Erase successful, but not automatically formatting.
Can't determine partition type.
FAILED (remote: unknown command)
Erase successful, but not automatically formatting.

erasing 'system'...
OKAY [ 0.385s]
erasing 'userdata'...
OKAY [ 0.423s]
erasing 'cache'...
OKAY [ 0.150s]
finished. total time: 0.968s

than i wipe all again in recovery and be able to install a new rom.

thanks again,
