I have been doing research for days and it seems this website has the best rep and volume of knowledgeable Android users.

IT would also seem that ROOTing the Alcatel One Touch 6040A is a pain in the back side. Everyone has had an issue with their wi-fi afterward

So my question is can anyone give a definitive answer on whether the 6040A can be rooted and then moded with any stable ROM's?

Can I pick someone's ear on rooting and installing ROM's for a minute? I'm tech savvy, but this will be my first Android modification and ROOT/ROM process.

Why am I here? I'm trying to root an Alcatel one touch Idol X 6040A and then install the most functional ROM that's higher than the 4.2.1 JB version I already have. AFAIK VROOT is the best option although some people still have issues afterward regarding ROM installations and Network connectivity.

I have yet to find a tutorial specific to the OT 6040A with positive feedback, so I'm very reluctant and hesitant to attempt this until I've done ALL of my homework.

Can someone possibly direct me to definitive ROOTing and ROM installation instructions that have been verified to work?

I see this thread, but it's 600+ posts I have to go through and there are only bits and pieces regarding the 6040A. There isn't a clear answer on this model so please, anyone...lol. Help.

Some main questions are;

- Does the phone fully function after ROOT? I have read around these forums specifically that 6040A users can not connect to networks after ROOT.

Also if the phone works properly, does it work "better"?

- Are there any fully functional and stable ROMs available to justify the ROOTing the 6040A?

- If something goes wrong or I'm not satisfied with the ROOT, is it possible to revert back to factory settings with no issues?

Here is the link for vroot (will auto update after installation) :
http://www.mediafire.com/download/v3e3mtgxp1khlar/VRoot_1.6.0.3690_Setup.exe

Use this tutorial for rooting your 6040a
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f90...y-all-andriod-phone-not-metter-brand-1726731/

The rom i have is the stock one, installed by the alcatel app : http://www.alcatelonetouch.com/glob...CH_IDOLX/otu/mobile-upgrade-s-4-3-0-setup.rar

The important thing is to have to have the adb over usb enabled. you can do this in the dev options in the settings : http://www.technewscentral.co.uk/ho...her-android-4-2android-4-3android-4-4/id_7250

Good luck :)

ps : i once tried a 4.4 rom but the problem was with the band used by my provider (telus). So i go back to 4.2 stock

Thank you. Also, what are the chances of messing up beyond return?

Question - Isn't a "stock" ROM the ROM that comes with it?

Well, this forum hasn't been much help at all except one or two people who actuallyreply to the best of their knowledge (and I thank you very much), but I'll try again here...

I have succesfully been able to root and install several ROM's on the 6040A, however as predicted there are mobile network issues.

The problem is the network band. I am bale to enter engineer mode but when I go to select the bands for Bell for the ones I require are grayed out and unselectable. Has anyone come across a solution for this?
