[Q] Always seem to hit the . (period) when I type...

I've owned an LG Optimus 7 since Nov. 2010 -- so I was an early adopter. My wife has had her LG Optimus 7 since May 2011.

Anyhow, the issue is with the on-screen keyboard. Does anyone else seem to get the . (period) far too frequently when they're typing? I thought it was just me and my typing style, but it happens to my wife as well. I then figured it was just an issue with the LG Optimus 7 -- screen size, screen type, or whatever -- but my friend has the same problem with his Samsung Focus. I guess we're not alone.

Strange thing is...it seems to be getting worse. I'm quite good with the on-screen keyboard, but I'll hammer out a quick text message and have it look like:

This is my.text message. How.did I.do?

It's a real hassle to fix all the time. I'm trying to figure out if the software has changed during the various builds, or if my typing style has somehow morphed. I'm not sure.

Anyone else see this issue too?

Accidently double-hitting the spacebar?
Nope. Double-hitting the spacebar would NOT give you the test sentence that I showed you. It would place a period, then a space, and then finally capitalize the next word.

Just be more careful when typing, don't try to type on it like a real keyboard. Use the suggestions and a slower more steady pace and text will get entered faster than actually trying to type.
Thanks, but I already try to do that. Also, it doesn't change the fact that multiple WP7 users I know run into the same issue *and* that it's gotten worse over the past year + (and more so over the last 6 months), which makes me think that it's in-part due to software changes within the phone OS.

Don't worry, you are not alone.
I am at the same situation when i try to type fast / not looking at the keyboard at all. I don't know but i hit the period a lot when i actually want to hit the spacebar button.

Thank you, thank you, thank you... for letting me know that I'm NOT TOTALLY CRAZY! ;)

Interestingly enough, I was talking with a co-worker about it (he's got an HD7, so a much larger screen) and he's seen the issue too. He actually hits the spacebar with his left-thumb now, instead of his right -- and, of course, doesn't hit the . button.

Might have to try that.

Have you noticed whether or not this has gotten worse for you over the past 6 months, though? I would think I'd be better at typing now than I was last summer -- or whenever. Doesn't seem to be the case. It's almost like they increased the "hit field" around the . key or something... like folks were missing it and this was a "fix".

Hmmmm.

I don't know, bro.
last year i had HD7 and i had quite a long time to get used to the keyboard in order to type fast and correct without looking too much in the keyboard. Actually, in last year summer, some of my friends were actually surprised on the speed that i reply to them on the phone.
But i have HTC Titan now, which has larger ketboard than HD7 and the same issue is happening to me, but yeah, you should be fine after a while.
Keep your mind in it for a little bit, and your brain will register that point to stop moving your thumb in order to hit the spacebar button.
Cheer.
;)

I have the same problem and yes it has gotten worse. I have the problem on my Focus (4") my Lumia 800 (3.7") and my HD2 (4.3") it's my fat right thumb, I think the reason it has gotten worse it that I have gotten more lazy with my typing. When I first got a WP I was comming from an iPhone so I typed slower to make sure I got everything right, but now i'm more comfortable with the WP keyboard and as such more sloppy.

if you have any other keyboard/language selected there will be a key between space and the period. maybe that will solve your problem.

That's certainly possible...I guess. Really difficult to say. You would guess that although you may get more lazy with your typing, you'd also get more accurate. It's also interesting that you've seen the same issue on (3) phones with different screen sizes. I would've thought that a larger screen would have resolved it. I guess not :(

Well, I only speak (and type) in English, so how would another keyboard help? Wouldn't that also affect the dictionary that it uses?
