I've tested it in both self and bus powered and I'm fairly sure it doesnt like the hub that I was using then.

Are the otg drivers on in b4?

Coolah
could also get a volt-meter and find your positive and negative pins and see that way, if you short it then I am gonna laugh, but there should be ways in the device itself that stop it from being shorted

I find it odd that there's a chance the S7 wont supply power, as the S10 and S5 can and do.

Power isnt the issue though, as I had the hub on self powered and it still didnt react. But I do need to check the catlog some time to see what's going on. Fortunately I have a dock so I can do both at the same time (I assume)

(yea you could also do logcat over wifi, but that's not the point)

I am most interested in use through the dock as I have the dock installed in my vehicle and use the streak as sort of a secondary head unit: WiFi only model streak tethered to my gnex, dock audio out to an after market head unit with an aux input in the rear of the head unit, I have a long usb cable running from dock to the glove box for possible future uses, it appears I will need to replace that with a cable that supports otg for..
external flash drive/hard drive for music and movies, or to connect to laptop for transfer of files or flashing purposes, should my pdmi cable ever die. or as an adapter for some type of keyboard with a built in mouse pad for control of the streak without needing to use the touchscreen.

I'd imagine the dock being hard lined to the vehicles battery should have ample supply of power to a connected drive/keyboard. And I know the laptop recognizes the streak when the dock is used in place of the pdmi cable.

The 2nd gen dock has a mini-AB port.

Left is a mini-A connector, right is a mini-B. Thusly the 2nd gen dock can accept either and you can use either host mode or slave mode.
I assume host and slave both use the same pins on the dell 30 pin port, if that is the case then I guess you cant use it as both a host and slave at the same time.

The original standard used mini A/B ports and connectors. The current standard is to use their eqivilent micro A/B ports and connectors. This is the proper way to do USB-OTG support.

Off topic: micro usb OTG cables are technically out of spec (if I am understanding it correctly).
The host device should have a micro-AB port if it supports hosting and the cable should be micro-B <-> micro-A.

The point of A ports and connectors is to physically indicate the device is capable of OTG support on that port. Otherwise you would have to randomly guess and plug things in to see if it'll work or not (at the hardware level, we'll completely ignore software support for now)

The above two cables are techincally out of spec, though the USB-IF isnt going to raid their factories and stop them or anything.

Is the proper way with usb-mini, I cant even find the equivilent usb-micro cable though. Admittedly it's rather useless though, as things such as usb keyboards and flash drives are perfectly compatable, but never have a port.

I use a mini-A male <-> usb-A female cable, which is a close compromise.

Actually I take that back, after playing with my S7 more I've come to this conclusion:

  1. The S7 requires a powered hub (which is rather restrictive, as the S5/S10 dont)
  2. It is also somewhat finicky about it, ocassionally it takes a moment to power up/detect (which was the main issue, it consistantly powers up instantly on my S5/S10)
  3. It doesnt simply detect a device, it can independantly detect the OTG cable with nothing attached to it
  4. On my S10, it doesnt generate any logcat events on connect, it simply appears connected. The B4 kernel does generate events though

So it does in fact work on ICS-B4 at least, I'll test it more on 514 in the future. But for now I'm going to be using B4 as I dont need working gps right now.

The OTG works with stock Dell roms as well. I have tested and working on stock 3.2 rooted 4G. As stated though you do need a USB Y cable so as to be able to supply external power. Plug one male USB into USB charger, other male into the OTG adapter, and your USB device into the female USB. You do need to power off the Streak 7 first, then plug in just the OTG adapter, then power on. Tested mouse, keyboard, and Logitec USB gamepad. I haven't had any luck using the dock for this though.
