Recommendation from Shischo for OmniROM

Are all those needed? I assumed that for OmniRom I only needed the TWRP 2.6.3.0 BigPart, not the other TWRP 2.6.3.0 or the Eos 4 BigPart Wingray Boot Image.
Please follow this steps:

Install
You will need bigPart TWRP and execute the repartitioning as described in

If updating from older ROM version in this thread, you don't have to wipe anything
If updating from an different ROM, wipe
Dalvik Cache
System
Cache
Data
Flash omni-4.4.2-201XXXXX-wingray-HOMEMADE_XXXX.zip
Flash gapps-xxxx.zip
Flash UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip
Reboot

You can find the thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2580256
Note that you no need another boot.img, because it is been incorporated ta the OmniROM itself. again, you need just to flash the above zip files noted.
I hope it be useful.

Be a developer

Hi,

I have done a factory reset on my Xoom Wifi only tablet. I had tried to root the tablet using a guide from the xoom forum. However, it did not go well. I have setup my wifi connection. I have setup my Gmail account on the tablet. I have a whole list of updates that I can download.

Now, here is key issue. All the Developer options are now LOCKED. So, I cannot enable USB Debugging. So,

Now the tablet is not rooted and is LOCKED. So, what in the world do I do now?

In order to use any ROMS I have to be able to enable USB debugging. So, gee. I am about ready to give up and go shop for a new TABLET.

I apologize for being a nag, but I did say I that I didn't know what I was doing. Maybe I shouldn't have tried anything.

Any help will be appreciated.
Does not matter if the tablet is locked or not, you can be a developer doing this:
Show Developer and Performance settings
Go to the settings menu, and scroll down to "About phone." Tap it.
Scroll down to the bottom again, where you see "Build number."
Tap it seven (7) times, and *poof*, you've got the developer settings back.

I did it in my Nexus 5 locked without problem.
The question is: Did you activate the switch for the option like this screenshot attached?
Pay attention at Top Right Switch, which can be changed to ON / OFf just taping it.
I hope it can help you.

Unlock and Rooting thread

This is what I mean by the developer options being locked. I go to Settings, Developer options. Under developer options everything is grayed out. I can tap my finger on Usb debugging, Allow mick locations, select debug options, wait for debugger, and nothing happens.
The check mark does not appear in the boxes. So, that is what I mean by LOCKED. Locked as in cannot select.

So, how do I unlock Android 4.1.2 on my XOOM?
Follow this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242241

Or this:

I hope it be useful.

hung at OMNI logon screen

Hi, sorry if this is a duplicate post. I searched and didn't find the subject matter. I followed the OMNI steps to put the new xoom kitkat image on my xoom. Everything appeared to work just fine, followed every detail

formatted, installed the TWRP recovery and then installed the Omni 4.4.2 image. The problem I have currently is that after reboot, the xoom will not go past the OMNI login screen. I am stuck at that point. The image I loaded was the Wingray for WiFi. I did not do a partition other than hit the format as when I tried to select all the items in the advanced wipe it produced errors. After the format, I do the install and put

Omni-4.4.2-20140106-1840+0100-wingray-HOMEMADE.zip Then I did the gapps-wingray-kk-20131223.zip followed by the UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip. THis did not take to long and then rebooted.
Now I am stuck on the OMNI login screen and has been hungup there for almost 15 minutes. Did I do something wrong? Please help.

Any help to get the image to work would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I am stuck

After rooting my WIFI XOOM using the second thread above last night I started fresh after work today.

I followed this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506997

1) Your data will be totally wiped! If you have Nandroids, TitaniumBackups, or anything of any value on your internal storage, copy them to your microsd or computer! They will be gone forever! Your microsd card is the only safe haven on your Xoom during this process.

2) Put all needed resources on your microsd card! You will need the original TWRP 2.6.3.0 touch recovery from @runandhide05, TWRP 2.6.3.0 BigPart version, your desired rom, and the BigPart boot image that goes with your desired rom. The BigPart boot images can be found in the next section.

3) Reboot into recovery. Flash TWRP BigPart. Don't reboot just yet.

4) Go back into wipe menu and wipe everything but /sdcard.

5) Go to reboot menu and reboot into recovery. Disregard the "No OS" warning and don't install SuperSU when asked.

6) When you come back into recovery, it will think your data is encrypted but it's not. Go into wipe menu and "format data". Type "yes" when prompted. When done, go back into wipe menu. Select "Advanced Wipe". Check "system" and "cache" and wipe them.

7) Hit Home then go to reboot menu and reboot recovery. Once again, disregard "No OS" warning and don't install SuperSU when asked

8) When you come back into recovery, go into mount menu. You should see "cache" and "data" checked. "System" will be unchecked. Check it to confirm it mounts, then uncheck it. Congratulations! You are now repartitioned!

9) Go into install. Recovery should show your microsd storage by default. If not, using the navigation panel, navigate to root then go into "sdcard". Flash your rom, BigPart boot image package, and any other resources as you normally would.

10) Reboot into system. You are done!

SO here is the story. It appears that I formatted erased or whatever my SD card. I do recall Bigpart saying that it was formating my SD card as ext-4. I took my microsd card from my Xoom and I put in my Samsung galaxy 3. I used the phone setup menu to format the sd card. What format should the microsd card be? right now, if I plug my xoom into my windows PC, Windows does not see it.

I tried copying the wingay image onto the SD card while it is in my phone and windows 8 says it can copy the files

I can boot into recovery mode and there is TWRP but I have nothing on the SD card and I don't know how to get the WIngay image on there.
I am lost and I hope that somehow somebody can help

So, its nearly 10:30 PM EST and I am going to bed. Thank you in advance

Good morning,
I dug through a drawer and I found the SD to microSD adapater card so now I can format, load, wip and sing the microSD card from my tablet (my desktop PC has a SD card reader). I didn't recall that I had either the adapter or a built in SDcard reader in my desktop last night. So, perhaps all is not hopeless.
Once I know what format method to use on the microSD card I should be able to copy the Wingay rom onto the microSD card and then put it back in my XOOM.
In theory I could next load the wingay ROM and then I should have my XOOM working again.

HELP, My SD CARD IS WRITE PROTECTED

Keep us updated, mate. Self learning is fun isn't it? :D

OK, my SDCARD is write protected. Windows tells me this when I try to copy the Wingay image to it. I did put it into my Galaxy S3 phone and I formatted it.
So, in TWP bigpart which is the only thing working on my tablet now, HOW do Iformat the SD card so I can put the wingay image on it?? You can wipe an SD Card using the Bigpar, Will this work?
Unless I boot into recovery mode (waiting two seconds and pressing the volume down key) my tablet will sit for hours displaying the dual core screen. Is there any hope for me? Did I totally mess the world up? What can I do?
Thanks

Tablet boots into recovery mode and has TWRP Team Win Recovery Project v 2.6.3

All help will be appreciated.

Are you sure the lock switch in your sdcard adapter is not the one causing the write protected issue?

NO, I didn't even know there was an off switch until I read this post.
That being said, here is where I am.

I put the Wingay image zipfile on my SD card. I put the SD card back in My XOOM.I booted my Xoom into Revoery and the TWP recovery ROM loaded. I went back to this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506997.

3) Reboot into recovery. Flash TWRP BigPart. Don't reboot just yet.(Is this just the TWRP BIGPART or is it flash both TWRP BIGPART and TWRP Touch recovery? This is not clear to me)????

4) Go back into wipe menu and wipe everything but /sdcard.

5) Go to reboot menu and reboot into recovery. Disregard the "No OS" warning and don't install SuperSU when asked.

Well if I reboot and do not hit the volume down button my tablet will sit at the Motorola splash Screen, If I reboot and then push the Volume down button I go into the TWP where I can repeat these steps until the cows come home.

So, am I lost again? Also the is MZ607 WIFI only

Please note question in Parens on STEP 3 above.

Is there a better way?

To make it clear, just go to your current recovery, meaning just reboot and press the volume down button. In above part of your screen, it shows your current recovery version. If it shows 2.6.3.0, which i believe it does as you said it, then just flash the TWRP bigpart. The original TWRP 2.6.3.0 is only necessary when your recovery version is not 2.6.3.0 or you have different recovery. After that, just hit the home icon to go back to the main menu and do the rest of the steps.

After applying the Bigpart patch I see 'Enjoy 1GB system and 512MB Cache' So does this mean the Bigpart worked?

Next I hit home then I try to install the Wingay image

Installing '/sdcard/eos4_wingray_Bigpart_boot_image.zip'
Checking for MD5 file
Skipping Md5 check: No MD5 file found.
Eos 4 Wingray BigPart kernel upgrade
You must be already partioned to us this. If not, just reflash Eos 4
Updating partion details

Then in blue "Sucessful"
I hit home then reboot I See 'no OS insatlled! are you sure you wish to reboot?'
I swipe to reboot I don't install the whatever root tool it is
The M dual core splash screen comes up and NOTHING happens.

So clearly something else is wrong. Maybe I need to go all the way back to where I rooted my tablet using the XDA tools and start from Scratch. Maybe a SLEDGE hammer is good idea. I really am at a loss here

Well suicide with sledgehammer is quite painful and not really a good way to die, mate :D
Dont worry. Yes you already have root acces to the device now, proved by the TWRP. Yes the bigpart has now worked in your Xoom. The problem is you flashed the boot image only but not the ROM yet. You can see it from the name eos4_wingray_Bigpart_boot_image.zip. No wonder it says that no OS installed. Check again the step 9.

Now what you need to do is download EOS 4 ROM in the EOS 4 for wingray thread. Put it in your SD card along with the boot image, flash the rom and then the boot image from recovery as you performed previously, wipe data and cache (optional), reboot, see if the 'no OS installed' notification is there, and if it's not then let the magic begins. Please do remember that first booting may take some minutes. The sign that it really boots into the system is your screen dims out after some time in the M logo.

However, if i may add, you can try flashing ROM other than EOS 4, like Omnirom 4.4.2, since the repartition is intended for Kitkat to work. It's snappier for me than EOS 4 or even EOS 3

Hi All,
I just upgraded my motorola xoom to OmniRom 4.4.2.....its super duper good on my tablet....
People out there who are using
motorola xoom tab everest version (MZ601) running on [ROM][4.2.2 JDQ39 AOSP] Eos 4.0 -- Umts_Everest (170) and respective GApps with CWM recovery installed.
Follow the below steps.
1)Using Goo manager install TWRP recovery, this will replace CWM recovery.
2) Put all needed resources on your microsd card! You will need the TWRP 2.6.3.0 BigPart version, omni-4.4.2-latest-everest-HOMEMADE.zip (md5sum),pa_gapps-modular-full-4.4.2-20131230-signed.zip,UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip.

9) Go into install. Recovery should show your microsd storage by default. If not, using the navigation panel, navigate to root then go into "sdcard".

->Flash omni-4.4.2-201XXXXX-everest-HOMEMADE_XXXX.zip
->Flash gapps-xxxx.zip
->Flash UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip
10) Reboot into system. You are done!

Enjoy Android KitKat 4.4.2 on your motorola xoom everest ver tablet.

After you apply all procedure for BigPart, try any of this ROMs:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2580256

or this:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2596566

Any ROM that you prefer, no need install any new image, just do it.

  • Flash omni-4.4.2-201XXXXX-wingray-HOMEMADE_XXXX.zip
  • Flash gapps-xxxx.zip
  • Flash UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip
  • Reboot

Currently both threads for both ROMs are working with OTA Update, then you will not need any more to flash the ROM again after the first one process.
Good Luck!!

In this point:

You need to do this:
  • Flash cm-11-201XXXXX-UNOFFICIAL-wingray.zip
  • Flash gapps-xxxx.zip
  • Reboot
It apply to any ROM

In case of OMNIROM, you nedd the ROOT update ZIP file to be flashed, because CM include it inside already, but OMNIROM no instead.
Good luck:good:

Im back in the saddle again! THANKS

Dear XDA commnunity. Words cannot express my current joy and happiness. I followed sgfriodov's recent success and now my tablet is working fine with the Omni 4.4.2 rom. I also like the idea that I will never have to go through this process again with this tablet (I do believe that I read this about the Omni Rom).

Thank you to all who replied to my posts, endured my sometimes rants and most of all who had the patience of Saints.

After you apply all procedure for BigPart, try any of this ROMs:
