Ah yes, I too would like to know how likely it is, since at the moment the GPE M8 is all I have for development purposes. I am probably going to today to get a Nexus 5 unless its going to be possible. I want to make sure all my apps are going to be ready :D

If it's in AOSP then why wouldn't it be possible?

Even if it's not the preview could possibly be ported to our devices

That's what I'm wondering. Is the code going to be available tomorrow? If so I have no doubt we will see roms pop up. If not I guess it will depend on if our 4.4.3 based binaries can be used on Android L. Really hope so... I'm tempted to re-buy a nexus 5.

They are not releasing code. Just preview images for the nexus 5 & 7. I'm not sure if a port is possible, but who knows.
I have to say I'm pretty disappointed, I expected a factory image for a flagship phone from less than just 2 years ago would be something Google could easily provide, specially considering Nexus 4 still has the most standard phone screen size (4.7") and similar specs as Nexus 5 (except for resolution, CPU speed and LTE), which exactly is why a Nexus 4 is my primary testing phone. Bummer.

"its pretty much the same except for the 3 things that ROMS tend to be picky about...."

Android L Port for a Consumer

I'm a complete noob when it comes to developing, but I hope that a port is possible and isn't too far away, I honestly just want to try it as a consumer. Whoever can make a port of the developer preview is awesome.

I suspect that it will be possible. But I doubt it will be fully functional. But it would still be fun just to play around with it.

It may be possible when mixing GPE and Factory Image of Nexus 5. They share the same Chipset (800 and 801 are almost identical), One M8 has no special Hardware except the Dual-Cam which is not relevant for testing the System!

It is possible, we ported over Android 4.1 from Emulator to HTC HD2 back in the days!

Was wondering the same thing.

What about official One M8 GPE owners here, shouldn't that phone get priority over the Nexus 5, or at the very least, get the exact same support and releases.

The One M8 GPE is kind of like the future Silver, it's the current highest end smartphone, with official stock vanilla Android direct from Google.

They did say at Google I/O that it will be released for Nexus Devices as well as GPE devices - when the full release comes.

This is just a developer preview, hence why it is only out for the N5 & N7.

GPE is less than Nexus on its priority line.
Nexus > GPE > The rest
