I've had to return 2 Cappys to the AT&T center in Thornton, Colorado (near Denver).

First time was after about 5 calls to 611 for my wife's captivate that was getting random shutdowns (both our phones were in the first batch that has this problem the most). The drive to the center sorta sucked, since we live 90min away, but in the end it took FAR less time to deal with the Service Center than with 611.

The second time was for my phone, which started doing shutdowns about a month later. I didn't even bother with 611. I walked into the center, told them the issue, they were aware of the press release regarding the problems. 10 minutes later I walked out with a new (not refurb, unless the refurb was less than a month old based on the manufacture date) captivate. No hassle, very professional.

Honestly, it was the ONE thing that has pleased me with regards to the problems I've had with this phone. And lucky for me my GPS locks pretty strong with the stock firmware now (my old Captivate would take 5 minutes to get a 60 meter lock, this one takes under 15 seconds to get a 15-25m lock).

I'm now on my second Captivate after my first one fell victim to the random shutdowns. I did the Odin one click back to stock JF6 and then updated it to JH7 via Kies Mini and took it in. Had a new phone in less than 15 minutes. Went home, installed Cognition and now I'm happy again. Just wish my battery life was better. But with 14 or so hours on a single charge with medium to heavy use I wont complain that much.

ATT Warranty Service Center

Today I went to the AT&T store to complain about the GPS issues on the Captivate. The associate (after looking the device over), gave me a flier/form and told me to take the phone to the local AT&T warranty center. The flier seems to indicate that the warranty center folks would either fix the issue or replace the device if they agree that my phone has an issue and is not (water) damaged etc.

Anybody have any experience with this?
Yes, I have with my Captivate Glide.
The peeps there are nice. They will try to fix your problem or exchange your phone for another one.
PROS: Talk to a live person, instant grat,
CONS: You have to have all your stuff backed up before hand.

I've found it's easier for me to have the National Warranty Center send me a replacement to my home, that way I have both phones to work with while I transfer all of my stuff.
