I am buying a cheap s4 mini and planning on making it into a glorified remote for my entertainment center, which means it will only be used for the living room/home. I really like some of these leather battery covers ive seen, and want to get a wireless adapter as well. one of those pads that stick under the battery and plug into micro usb.

does anyone have any experience with this? on my nexus 5, wireless charging seems to work well enough with a case. since the s4 mini wont have a case, but just a leather battery cover, I wonder if it would still work?

I have a wireless charger, but it heats the phone up like hell and also brakes the battery.
The leather case will work with the wireless charger for sure, but your phone will heat up and you can also burn it. So be careful.

Right. My nexus 5 gets pretty hot as well, but I've seen users claim its bad and others seem to say it's not. I figure under regular use it shouldn't be too bad. The phone will mostly just be used as a remote, which probably isn't very demanding on the hardware. Its not like I'm playing games, browsing, watching movies, etc.

I'm hoping with cellular off (and brightness turned down) I can extend battery life. Phone will just be placed on dock at end of the day to charge.

Ah yeah, but be careful, heating batteries can also explode.

Yeah shouldn't be a problem at all. You may want to get a 3 coil wireless transmitter base/pad since they are much less picky about placement. I'd also recommend installing battery doctor, it claims to reduce to a trickling charge once you hit 95% charged.

You should try a different wireless receiver. I'v been using a generic one for about a year and I'v never had an issue with heat, much less "burn it". Your receiver may be defective.
