You need to downgrade to V10.6.1.25 for the US

Follow instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2195883

Then using Motochopper found here:

Root

Hi thanks for your reply but the downgrade tutorial for me is like another language lol

To do my NVFlash how do i know which NVFlash do i need between NVFlash for ICS bootloader or NVFlash for JB bootloader? how do i know if it's locked or unlocked? How do i get Fastboot?

Thanks in advance, WarDog Out.

PS : Sorry for the questions but I don't want to brick my tablet or do anything wrong that can and want to understand it correctly (because i'm no Dev xD ) before rooting it :D

What is cromi going to help me find out if i need NVFlash for ICS bootloader or NVFlash for JB bootloader? or to know if it's locked or unlocked? or getting Fastboot?

Some of these tutorials look easy but there not really detailed for unexperienced people that want to root... Examples: what will it do, how to know if you need this or this for that version or that version... You'll need this that will do this etc etc...

Thanks Hermit but I'm still stuck, I don't know if cromi is needed to root my tablet. The question is do i really need cromi to know that my tablet needs NVflash for ICS or JB bootloader, if my tablets unlocked or locked, and how to get fastboot.

If i do Cromi and it bricks my tablet i'm gonna be gutted because i use it alot so that's why i'm being extra carefull. I hope you don't mind that :D

Thanks again Hermit i'll keep that tutorial on the side for the mo.

You don't need NVFlash that's just a backup. You do not need Cromi.

Here's a step by step on how you will obtain root, Unlock your bootloader, AND get back to the latest update:

1) Download the V10.6.1.25 for the US from ASUS

Once you downloaded it here's the instructions to downgrade:
~unzip it once
~rename unzipped zip to EP201_1024_SDUPDATE.zip
~ turn off tablet
~ place sdcard in slot
~ power + vol down
~ select RCK

Let it do its job and it should restart. Once you are back in Android check the version in Settings>About Phone
You should see it in Build number that it's 10.6.1.25 or something close to that.

Next turn on USB Debugging in the Developer Options.

If you do not see developer options in your settings go back to Settings>About Phone. Here tap the Build Number about 8 times and it'll grant you the DEV Options.

Once in there turn on USB Debug.

Install your ASUS ADB Drivers here: Drivers

Next, if you do not have the Android SDK installed (Assuming you know what this is) Install from this link: Link

That will install ADB and Fastboot (ADB is a Command Prompt Window while Fastboot is a program that ADB will use to run commands)

Grab Mottochopper: MottoChopper 1.3

Extract it and put it on your Desktop.
Open the mottochopper Folder and double Click the run.bat or run file and follow the instructions.

At this point it should have installed correctly and you will not have ROOT :D

Updating to the latest firmware!
In the playstore download Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper
Grant it Superuser permissions then backup root and TEMP Unroot it (This will save your root while you update)

Go into Settings>About Phone
Tap Software Update and update yourself back up to the latest firmware.

Go back to Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper and restore root and done :D

Optional: Unlocking your bootloader and Installing a Custom Recovery!

Now for Unlocking your Bootloader!

Download this RAR file and Unzip the APK file: UnLocker
Drag the APK into your SD card then install it from the Tablet.

Follow the on-screen instructions and you will unlock your bootloader.

Once you have Unlocked your bootloader you may now install a Custom Recovery.
Download TWRP .blob here:
TWRP

Plug in your device then~
Open Minimal ADB and Fastboot then type in:
Code:
ADB devices

You should see your device listed. If not you went wrong installing drivers somewhere...

If you got this far great
type in next:
Code:
ADB reboot bootloader

Wait for your tablet to reboot and you should be back in the screen where you see RCK etc etc
from there type in this:

Code:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery <Put a space here>
^DO NOT PRESS ENTER YET^

instead locate that TWRP file you downloaded and drag it into the command window
Now press Enter.

When it's all done type this:
Code:
fastboot-i 0x0B05 reboot

Now you'll have a Custom Recovery to work with!

To get into TWRP simply turn off the device then hold down volume rocker down + Power button at the same time until it boots.

Yes it does matter. You could just use the World Wide Firmware. It has the Label "WW" on it.

Went through the firmwares and looked at the end of the description of the firmwares on the asus website and saw that my tablet is WW came back to XDA website and see that you replied :D

Thanks again Hermit :D

ok....

~unzip it once
~rename unzipped zip to EP201_1024_SDUPDATE.zip
~ turn off tablet
~ place sdcard in slot
~ power + vol down
~ select RCK

Then got an error icon.... Is it best to do this formated? I mean erasing all data on the tablet? Do i put the zip folder in the tablet or sdcard? just wondering :D

You put the zip on the SD Card. I'm not sure if you need to format or not since I don't have the tablet anymore xD do some trial and error.

This has been such a frustration.

I just got the tablet today and have frantically been searching for an update (I'm 4.1.1) and it tells me I am up to date.

So I downloaded the .rar file from the asus website and unzipped it ONCE as everyone has been saying in this thread.

I then renamed the remaining file as instructed in this thread.

I then reformatted my microSD card as a FAT32 and placed the file onto the card.

I put the card into my tablet and I don't see any exclamation point to click on.

I tried a cold reset and accessing RCK... when I do that I see the android robot with a blue line underneath for about 1.5 seconds until he falls over with a red triangle and an exclamation point inside it.

WTF am I doing wrong?

Vroot will unlock the tablet and root the device.. One catch.. Actually two, and think about it before you use this. One it's made by Foxconn in China yes the same company that produces the iPhone and the second is almost all apk files are in the language. So I didn't have much of a hassle use Vroot and then replace all of their superuser apk files with SuperSu then... PROFIT

By the way.. The other catch, no original recovery image and no custom Rom, yet

I was having exactly the same issue, but I then realized that I was putting the zip file into the root of the device, not of the SD Card. Once I put it into /Removable/SDCard, pressing vol up worked all to the way to install the firmware.

cant rood me301t

hi..not sure if this has been answered or if anyone is still reading this post. I have had my me301t since it first came to the US. I haven't used it in months. (running 4.2.1). I want to root it so I can use my ps3 controller. I have tried motochopper to root, but it gets to loading the files and then it says "failure" the firmware seems to state that it has an 08/2013 date. Let me know if you need further information. Thanks in advance

My memopad is almost dead. It barely works. Every single thing I try to run takes a lot of time.
I wonder whether I could install a custom rom or something like that in order to update the old system.
Please help me!!
