So my Atrix can detect the n-network when the channel is set to ~2Ghz, but it won't detect the 5GHz one. Isn't the frequency of the channel what makes the n-network special?

That's the problem. Where I'm situated there's at least 1 wireless network in every single channel.I believe that the only advange 5GHz has over 2.4GHz, is that the 2.4GHz space is more crowded, but as long as you don't suffer from interference there, you should be fine.
I'm only 3 meters and 1 wall away from my router. It does detect 5GHz but it's weak when it's too away from the router far compare to 2.4 GHz.
I think Atrix's Wifi isn't strong. That's the problem. Where I'm situated there's at least 1 wireless network in every single channel.

The 5 GHz freq does not have the range or penetration of 2.4 GHz.I think Atrix's Wifi isn't strong.

ah crapThe 5 GHz freq does not have the range or penetration of 2.4 GHz.
The problem is, I can connect to the 2GHz N network, not the 5.I got the same problem. My router has dual broadcast of N and G. The phone sees N when I'm in the same room as the router but nowhere else. The G works fine everywhere.
I'm using a Netgear WNDR3300, with dd-wrt on it. I can access the 5GHz network with my laptop, so I know it's functioning.@txtsd - what sort of router are you using? Can you not see the network at all when it's set to 5GHz broadcast?
The frequency isn't so much what makes N "special" as 802.11A was also in the 5GHz band. What makes it special is the multipath used to increase signal reception (normally multipath is a bad thing in RF).
I have the same router with DD-WRT and the same problem. I have switched to a 2.4ghz network and back to 5ghz and it works properly until I disconnect.I'm using a Netgear WNDR3300, with dd-wrt on it. I can access the 5GHz network with my laptop, so I know it's functioning.
With regards to DD-WRT or router compatibility with Atrix, if I'm connected to my Asus RT-N16 running dd-wrt @ 2.4GHz N, phone frequently loses the connection, but if I use my pocket router (Linksys WRT54GS, running stock firmware) connection is rock solid.I have the same router with DD-WRT and the same problem. What security settings are you running? I'm running WPA2I have been using the 5ghz band via Netgear's WNDR37AV Dual Band Gigabit Wireless gaming & Video router for a week now w/o issue. The only thing I have noticed is sometimes my Market says, timed out retry? I experienced the same message during testing on the 2.4ghz band, and I have experienced the same message on Att's data network. (?.I think its a problem with the Atrix's soft/firmware.?) I am not exactly sure what all the different settings do, but I am learning. If you have a particular question about my 5ghz settings that could help get yours up and running, I will check what I have and report back an answer..

I tried going back and forth but it doesn't even see the 5GHz network.I have the same router with DD-WRT and the same problem. I have switched to a 2.4ghz network and back to 5ghz and it works properly until I disconnect.
I tried the 20Mhz and 40Mhz both, it didn't see either. With regards to DD-WRT or router compatibility with Atrix, if I'm connected to my Asus RT-N16 running dd-wrt @ 2.4GHz N, phone frequently loses the connection, but if I use my pocket router (Linksys WRT54GS, running stock firmware) connection is rock solid.
So I think Atrix simply does not "like" some of the wi-fi routers out there, or maybe it does not like fat channels (40Mhz wide channels on N for 300mbit connections), or it is too susceptible to interference.
Yea it's an Atrix issue. It should be fixed in the upcoming update.I have been using the 5ghz band via Netgear's WNDR37AV Dual Band Gigabit Wireless gaming & Video router for a week now w/o issue. I hope I don't have to buy a new one. I don't have the receipt to return this one.Would like to point out I had to junk my 3300 because it wouldn't work with my Atrix or my N USB dongle attached to the desktop upstairs. That router sucks for the 5Ghz band, even with dd-wrt.
Bought an Asus RT-n56u and it works perfectly even across the street from my house.
I had similar problems getting my HTC phone and my daughter's iPod Touch connected to my router, and it took a while to figure it out. I've noticed that some devices do not like connecting to a router using SSID with more than one word or phrase:I tried going back and forth but it doesn't even see the 5GHz network.
