I'm running the leaked german ICS on my SGN with the root as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20963718&postcount=2.

However there is LP4 XEU out now I was thinking of installing that this afternoon.
What I am asking is does someone have a safe step by step I can follow minimizing the chance of a brick also which is the prefered better kernel. I want to install the new ROM asap so I will feel safer than being on LPY.

I would do nothing for a couple of days if I were you. Wait for CF to release CF--Root LP4, then move on. You are safe on LPY provided you do not do any wipes/resets/flashes.

Being on an "official" ICS kernel isn't too safe. You might want to either:
A) Go back to Gingerbread via PC Odin.
B) Go to CM9 or a CM9 built ROM with that kernel.
C) Go to an ICS rom that is built with samsung stuff, but use Franco or Speedmod kernels. (No guarantees though)

Whatever you do, do NOT wipe anything in CWM, and I say anything to just be cautious and do not do a nandroid restore!

step by step method is simply update your phone using the samsung official update and then for root and the best kernel ( which i think is the franco.kernel )follow this link.....
