I think I found a solution. I followed these steps
1. Charge your phone via USB cable on your computer.
2. The white notification light should come on.
3. Then, do not touch any buttons on your phone.
4 The iconic Battery Logo(white background) should appear after several minutes.

Followed these steps and my phone eventually turned on
Good luck!!
I reproduced this solution and it worked!!! I think the solution here is to charge the dead battery with something that has voltage output >3.8v. The statndard USB 2.0 in the PC gives the voltage output of 5V and min current of 0.5A. Therefore, charging with PC works but charging with phone chargers which have the output of 3.8V doesn't. Enjoy!

Got mine back working!

Hi,

I created an account and got back here just to let people know that I could also make it back to work, thanks to God.

Well, mine was in the Black Screen White Led state and nothing was getting it back to work, I´ve tried almost everything in this thread, then, I got my wife a new Moto G (3rd generation) which is beautiful, then I got the charger from that Moto G and left mine 1st generation Moto G dead charging for some hours.

Then, I tried to turn it on and nothing happened. By that, I decided that I would open the mobile just to look at the parts to see how it was built, then I removed the back cover, the system board (and the connections), that silver stuff above the system board, did not remove the screen, touch and glass. Then put everything back and try turning it on and voilá! It started working back, everything was like before.

Probably, the charger put the battery back to work, but since it was not booting because it was probably in a bug/loop/error state, removing all the pieces and connection then putting everything back and connecting made some connection that could be loose to work back again.

Well, that´s all I did and it worked! =DDDDD

I fixed mine

So my phone completely died and when I plugged it up the notification light came on instead of the percentage screen, I plugged it in to charge and it still wouldn't come on. I took a two hour nap and when I woke up it turned on fine, however, after it dying again it did the same thing. I found out that after a while of the light being on while charging it went off and the normal charging screen came up, you just have to let it set for a while before it charges ?

I've got this exact same problem, except to complicate things further this happened after I dropped it into water. Long story short I was impatient, then my power button got a mind of its own and now when I plug in my beloved, the screen does not light, only the blinking, white notification LED. I've ordered a torx screwdriver set from amazon so i can take a look inside and try a few of these solutions

I have the same problem. I bought the phone as not working, i thought i could fix it. So symptoms are the same, phone doesn't power on, led is glowing continuously. I have another moto g witch is working fine, so i swapped the battery from the non-workin phone to it and it charged normally. Swapped back and the phone powered up, and was charging as well. But the battery life is terrible, discharging in half of day. Several apps are showing that battery health is good. When phone discharged to 0 it didn't power on again. Of course now i know how to make it power on, but this is not a fix. So i think it could be the battery but i'm not sure. Anybody tried replacing the battery?

Hey there, sorry for bumping this but I'm having the same problem

My brother dropped his moto g and the screen shattered. I managed to get a bricked phone with the screen working fine so I replaced it. But unfortunately my brother's phone still has this problem
I know the battery is working because I tested it on the bricked one

Any ideas?

I had the same problem, just connect it with 2 amps and in less than 1 minute was online :)

But this is not the official solution of the problem, I only recommend that you do not allow it to discharge less than 15 if you do not want to do this again :(

Hello!
My father's moto g2 had same problem with a new battery after 2 months from replacement.
I've checked the solutions in this thread without success so I've tried the following procedure and it has worked for me:

1) Open the phone removing the back cover
2) unplugg the battery connector
3) plug the phone to a charger (I've used usb cable connected to a pc)
4) screen becomes white with battery indicator, like when charging but at 0%
5) plug the battery connector again without disconnect the phone from usb cable
6) battery indicator shows real % of charge and phone will boot normally

Hope this trick can help someone.

Bye!!

Which screwdriver have you used to remove screws? Is it T3, T4, or T5?

I had the black screen problem last week on my 1039 1st gen. Up till then it was running great. I put it on charge over night but it was totally dead. I thought it was bricked.
Here's what I did to fix it. Similar to what other people have said.

1, Connect it to your PC via USB, I was surprised when the screen lit up after 5 minutes with the battery icon showing 0% charge.
2, After another 5 minutes I pressed power and volume down for 2 minutes then released the buttons and I was in the bootloader. Then I cleared the cache and selected reboot however the screen went black again.
3, After another 5 minutes the boot logo appeared! Then another black screen, damn.
4, Then the boot logo appeared again and it booted! Immediately there was a message saying low battery but when I checked in settings there was 2% charge.
5, I left the phone connected to the PC for a while and when I checked it was on 7% charge. I then connected it to an old Palm 2amp charger and left it overnight.
This morning it was fully charged and I'm using it again.

What I think happened was I downloaded a walking app that monitors brisk walking with GPS. I enabled it for a walk but never turned it off and I think it ran the battery right down to 0%. The normal charger hasn't got enough power to kickstart the battery but by connecting it to the PC there's enough to get it charging again then the normal charger can take over again.
I hope this helps, good luck.

I have a simple solution for that I have faced this issue long time ago and now I know a permanent solution. You all have usb cables in your house...just took a old one and cut it from the mini usb side..there are 4 wires...you have to care about red and black..open your moto g battery and took it off from the phone now connect the usb cable to your pc and touch the red wire to the positive and black to the negative ...just do this for 45 seconds and immediately connect the battery to the phone and connect the charger...phone will starts charging from 0 % pls do not wait to connect the switch and back cover just charge it upto 20 % the cover it up.....DO NOT LET YOUR BATTERY DRAIN MORE THAN 30% AS THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM IN LI ION BATTERIES...
It worked man, thanks a lot. Did this now, My moto g was lying dead for 2 years:laugh:

Interesting, but how did you determine the negative and positive terminals on the battery flex? Can you, please, mark the attached photo of the battery of moto g to help the community?

Also, as a side note I think I discovered a solution - I connected the phone to my PC's usb 2.0 port and held the power button for 2 minutes - at which the LED blinked momentarily and then continues to shine. I left the phone connected and continued to browse for solutions to this battery charging dilemma - then about 5 minutes the LED stopped shining (and I breathed a sigh :silly: !!! becaue this is the sign of battery being charged!) and after about 30 minutes of charging I turned the phone on and it was 16% charged. Well I haven't been able to reproduce this solution (since, I have been extra cautious with the battery now!) but I would surely like to know if anyone can reproduce this solution:

1. Plug in your phone to USB 2.0 or 3.0 port with original moto g cable and confirm that the LED shines continuously.
2. Hold the power button for 2 minutes (which I discovered to be a long time if you just continuously stare at the phone!) after which you will notice that the led with blink momentarily before continuing to shine continuously. (I suggest you continue holding it for another 2 minutes after which the led will blink again momentarily)
3. Leave the power button and leave the phone attached to the port for at least 30 mins before attempting to power on.
For finding +ve n -ve terminal u have to remove the black insulating tape, the terminals are attached to the protection board(chip) and -ve & +ve is mentioned on the back of battery. I used a 5V-2A charger and connected the black and red wire of usb cable to the battery. Look for the spark, if it happens then the battery will start charging otherwise reverse the wires(the battery will start getting hot+indicates charging). Then after a minute I removed the wires, connected the battery immediately to the phone and connected through other intact usb cable with the same charger. give it some time 5 mins, try pressing the power button, And it will surely work:good:
