Id go nexus s. But could you just buy a phone and return it on day 29 for a different phone then on day 29 of that phone get a different phone then on day 29 of that phone get the Evo 3D? haha would that even work? 
Sort of a "keyboard" decision. For me, I really prefer the on-screen kb. When is the Nexus supposed to be available ... does it meet your time frame?

You only return one phone. Say I get the Shift and return it on the 29th day for a Nexus S, I can't return the Nexus S.
Well, I can't really speak to either of those, but my wife and I just joined Sprint last month and purchased two EVO's (not the Shift). She initially was questioning the phone, but was comfortable enough to try it for the first 30 days... she now absolutely loves the phone.
your upgrade cannot be used on the nexus s as it will not be out by april 1st. im in the same boat as you man.
So do you think If I got her the shift that I would be able to return in within the 30 days and by then the nexus S will be out?
no idea? im buying the wp7 arrive and will hold onto it then sell when the nexus drops.
everybodies opinion will be different. but i think in a way yes, the battery life is proven better on the nexus, plus it gets all google updates first.
