I've been running CM10 and AOKP ROMs for pretty much my entire time on Nexus4/mako, as well as my other devices (T989 Hercules/Vibrant). My only complaint has been that the calendar app isn't very useful in 'monthly' mode.

I figured this was something to do with Google and just put it out of my mind, until the other day I flashed Slimbean+Slimgapps on my phone. All of a sudden, my monthly calendar looked a lot better. In Slimbean, I could actually read the text of the events (usually with ellipsis) in monthly mode instead of it being little colored rectangles (AOKP). Both, I think, are 4.2.2 based, so it leads me to the question:

What is the difference between the Slimbean and AOKP, as related to the Google Calendar app, and is there a way to get the better calendar in AOKP?

- I've tried downloading the calendar app (google) in the play store and that did not work.
- Titanium backup shows a calendar app at the system level on both devices that looks like it should not be removed. They appear to be named differently. the CM10/AOKP one is authored by sethyx. Maybe this is something left unmerged from some later version of CM? Or maybe its carried over from CM somehow?

At any rate, I am trying to figure out where the issue lies so I can either fix it or politely point it out to whoever might be able to make the change, since I can't imagine any reason not to make the switch.

install paranoid android google apps no matter which rom. this is the truest to stock google apps package around. apps in there are untouched, tested, and it updates almost daily as well. the other packages update monthly or even once a year. it contains the regular google apps which are usually better than the crippled aosp counterparts.

Flashing pa-gapps had no effect.

Screenshots, to see the difference:

The app that is showing up in Ti Backup, that is needed for both regular and pa-gapps, is

AOKP: Calendar Storage 4.2.2-eng.sethyx.20130721.174821 (CALENDAR)

Slimbean: Calendar Storage 4.2.2-eng.kufik...l.20130704.004657 (CALENDAR)

Not sure if this is the pertinent difference or not but thought I would mention. This file is not included in either gapps package as far as I can tell.
