[Q] Can Hadware Issue Make the Phone Boot in Download Mode?

My Aunt had a samsung Captivate She accidently set the Phone in Download Mode. When I connect USB or Power Cable and turn the Phone ON it starts normaly. But When I unplug it and try to start it Boots in to the Download Mode. I got the cell flashed from a repair centre But the Problem is still there Now the repair centre says it is an issue of Hardware.

I want to ask that is that possible that the USB jack can make the phone go into Download Mode?

Captivate was Unlocked, Not Rooted and was on Froyo before the Flashing. Now its on Gingerbread.

Please Guide Me I am confuse what to do?

It's a possibility, I'm thinking it could be from humidity though. You could try to put the phone in a bag of rice for a couple days see if it helps.

If that doesn't work, it could very well be that the volume down button randomly activates. It's not very common but hardware is hardware, never really know what will break or not work properly.
