[Q] Can I root my replacement S5 on NI2?

So after having my rooted NCG Galaxy S5 for months, my daughter decided to drop it off the balcony and shatter the screen. So I paid my deductible and recieved my replacement from Asurion today. It was a brand new (not refurbished) S5 and of course it has the latest update (NI2) preinstalled. So my question is, how can I root it? Or can I even root it?

I saw the guide about retaining root when updating from NHA, but it says a rooted NHA build is required from the get go.

You should be able to root it. Give my guide a try under How to root NI2. All the required files are there in one easy spot. It works for me every time, just read the directions and follow them and you should be fine.

Even tho this phone came out of the box with NI2 installed? If so what tar do I download?

The kernel tar files are in the root.zip. You only need to download the three files in that section. All the directions you need are under How to root NI2....(click to show content)

Thank you so much! I received an S5 as a gift with NI2 out of the box as well, this is incredibly helpful! Hooray for root!
