Of course I've read dozens of individual's reports of their own personal battery experiences with their phones, but the basic conclusion I've come to is that I simply cannot run this device with LTE enabled at all times. I have great 4G coverage in my area and while speeds are fantastic, my phone is imperative for my push notifications so I have a corporate email client running using data constantly, and making it impossible for me to disable background data.

das BAMF Remix 1.6.3
Adrynalyne's cf_2.0, smartass, 1024000 max
  • 245760: 775
  • 368640: 825
  • 768000: 900
  • 1024000: 975

I went through the process of freezing EVERYTHING non-essential and removing all widgets except the Sense home clock. With LTE enabled I got 6 hours of battery life at best, with moderate usage; I would be at about 60% by the time I got to the office in the morning.

Under same conditions with only 3G enabled I can get 17 hours without much difficulty and that usually includes playing a few games during downtime.

Am I just doomed to use 3G-only in order to maintain data persistence? If Tasker had support for toggling 3G-only and 3G/4G-auto I would be such a happier boy as I could then only turn on 4G on-demand, but at this point it's too cumbersome.

Huge *NOTE!*
Go to settings, menu, wireless networks, mobile networks and uncheck the third box. No need to have mobile data always on for most peeps . You'll still have 4G n everything, but gain a good 1-2 maybe more hrs (depending on use, kernels, governor settings, and I/O scheduling. I personally am running BAMF 1.6.2 with adryns 4.4.7 kernel, no set CPU, using tool box for that at 245mhz min - 1.024GHz max with ondemand governor and most importantly SIO Scheduler. Try these n you will have amazing performance and better battery life. Let me know you opinions :)

Did you try lte only? I get 10-16 hours depending on use.

Yeah, I've read your post on this elsewhere already... since you did not read my post I will repeat that I cannot disable data persistence as I rely on my push notifications for corporate email. Second, my CPU settings are already arguably the most efficient they can be for both performance and power consumption.

Is that the last option? "LTE mode"
Won't this prevent 3G from working in non-4G areas? Also not an option, I need data service at all times.

Download LTE Switch to save your battery life

This free app LTE Switch was sent to me from a friend and it works great to toggle between 4G to 3G and saves my battery life everyday....

Google LTE Switch in and Android Market

LTE mode just drops it into roaming (turn roaming on under network connections) when it's out of range. You can always switch back to 3g if you know you need a faster connection after that.

Anyways, the saying goes "you cant always get what you want"

In my opinion its the search for 3g signal that is damning the battery life. I've always felt that the 1x to evdo transition was never fixed. Rather evdo coverage hid that problem.
If you set it to LTE only the transition to 1x from LTE is flawless and instantaneous when LTE signal is lost and vice versa. In addition, the battery life is much much better.

I assume your corp doesn't use Exchange? I don't need mobile data persistence and I still receive push notification.

Signal searching definitely wrecks batteries. At home with on very very light use, an hour of mostly idling takes maybe 1-2%. At work where signal is constantly at 0 to 1 bar (3g and 1x) it goes through 5-6%/hour just sitting there.

you don't need data persistence for push email to work(exchange/gmail/hotmail). It pushes and enables data as needed.

I figure I would add some feedback...

My original TB got the worst battery life ever. Even with the extended battery, I wouldn't make it more than 6-7 hours most... on a good day. That was running stock software, then BAMF remixed (Froyo).

I ended up having an issue with the phone, so I had them send me another one. The new one, completely stock, w/ extended battery, has been able to make it through the whole day without a single charge. The only time it didn't, was yesterday. For some unknown reason, something was dragging down the battery to the point where it only made it 10 hours and was completely dead before I was able to charge it.

Fast forward to today, and I am 81% capacity after 6 hours and a few phones calls, both on the handset and the bluetooth hands free in my Acura.

FWIW: I leave on WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, have gmail checking mail all day, Exchange account for work (via Touchdown), auto-brightness, many updates throughout the day via Pulse newsreader, normal surfing using the Miran web browser.

I've run the following "tests" for my situation....

With 4G enabled, after an overnight charge, unplugging at 9am, my batter is down to 20% by 2pm. This is after using the phone for a few calls, some texts, heavy email, some internet browsing, youtube, and a little bit of friendstream usage.

Under the exact same usage, but only on 3G, at 2pm, I'm consistently around 65% battery remaining.

I've run this both ways (with 4G and without it) 3 times each now in the past week. Results are almost the same every day.

After this, I decided to put the LTE OnOff switch on my home page. I run through most of the day on 3G. I enable 4G only when needed (browsing internet, updating programs, watching youtube or other videos, etc).

It was a little annoying at first, but now its become routine habit and I dont even notice it anymore.
