[Q] Cannot send data to system partition when flashing Google factory image - how to?

I am unable to send data to the system partition when flashing the Google factory image. I downloaded the image straight from Google. See the screenshot below of my command line output. It's been sending to the system partition for over 3 hours now, so I am guessing something is going wrong. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

NB: it won't boot because the system partition has been erased.
