I've been using the Jelly Time ROM for a while now and its been really good, I recently updated to the Android 4.2 versions and when I flashed gapps I kept getting a message saying the process wasn't working, I know now that this is because I was flashing a version of gapps meant for 4.1 on 4.2. Last night I attempted to fix it, thinking if I simply re-flashed gapps it might fix the problem however when I booted the phone after install an error message saying the set up process wasnt working. I turned on my phone this morning to try and fix the problem but now I can barely boot the phone at all. It loads up until just after the Jelly Time logo and then I get a black back light screen.

How do I boot into recovery to flash the new gapps? I can't do it the normal was of restarting in recovery and I can't do it with the hardware keys as it appears the down rocker is broken.

There is a different gapps for 4.1.2 and 4.2.1.. http://goo.im/gapps
If you think that maybe the gapps is the culprit, try flashing rom without installing gapps.
Or try to use another jellybean rom like cm10.1 or something to check whether that problem persist.

Just use adb reboot recovery to enter recovery and use 4ext recovery or cwm touch to enable flashing without volume button.

Thanks for your reply. I flashed the newest version via adb with and without the 4.2 version of gapps. Both time it gets as far as the "Android is upgrading: Starting apps" and just appears to freeze. So it appears if gapps was the problem its not the only one. Not sure what else to do bar do a wipe and fresh install.

EDIT: just went to try do the wipe and I can't even get in via adb. Keep get device offline. Have Googled it and updated everything ive seen and got nothing.

Seems like you only flash dalvik cache.. Did you do fullwipe before installing? Try format everything except sdcard using 4ext recovery.
