[Q] Can't connect phone to ODIN3 v3.04

I can't connect my YP-GS1(US) to ODIN3 v3.04 even though I'm using a usb cable to connect my computer and device. I'm trying to root my phone with these steps(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864741). I get stuck on step 12 though because my nothing pops-up in the "ID: COM" field. The only time I can get something to show up is if I boot my device(YP-GS1) in a normal mode. Can someone please help?

Also I am 100% positive i am in download mode(Power+Volume down+ok) then Volume up
